Default Reaper won't work without external mic (

Does anyone know why Reaper will not record or playback anything unless I have some kind of usb microphone connect? It can simply be a webcam. If I unplug the webcam, Reaper is useless. Anyone know the fix?

Hit CTRL-P and select Audio->device and tell us what it says.

The only way I can get it to work is if I switch to ASIO and go through speakers. If I try to use headphones with ASIO or any other audio driver it locks ups trying to record or playback.

If it helps: https://i.imgur.com/DNhuB3H.png

Edit:

I got rid of the prepamp I was using and that seemed to work. Now all the drivers will play through my headphones, but it would be nice to be able to use the preamp. I'm a little curious though why I now if I open kontakt outside of Reaper, Reaper won't make any sound, no matter what drivers I use. Is that normal?

yes, when using asio4all, if you are already using your sound device for Kontakt standalone then Reaper won't be able to use it.
Have you tried using WASAPI shared mode (and making sure all your applications and Windows sound are all set to use the same sample rate etc.)?
