I see, i could say the same about music, improvising, you have to know a lot to be able to make it simple, natural and nice, it's not really about the price of the instrument you play....

Big up for your work and the 1shot team....

I'm pretty impressed by this mockup.

I never understood that theme fever, mainly because it never did Reaper more usable. But this is in another league. This is distinctive, and uber-clean with its own personality.

Congrats! (at least fo the idea)

I have themes i like and themes i don't like, but the usability issue is much bigger and more important than themes for sure

Default OT!

Sorry, this is highly off topic (I really like the mockup though!):
In the screenshot on the first page, how did you manage to put the midi on the folder parent? Can this be achieved with feedback routing? I think Tallisman talked about that some time ago. Can anyone enlighten me please? :-)

Thanks,
fladd

That mock-up is jawdroping!
Because it is DIFFERENT. Yes, the limitations of GUI and so on.

But I think that the author could realy fast make some
working reaper theme in the style of his mock-up within a couple
of weekends ro whenever.

Good vision in mind!

Great mockup that (apparently) can't be fully reproduced in the current Reaper skinning system?

Great look though.

yes, indeed - you can do this with feedback-routing.

I do it like this:

At the moment there doesn't seem to be a link to the additional skins available - I started a thread about this in the Nusofting-forum:

Guru is super creatively powerful. I beta tested that one from it's early days. Make sure you download GoldBaby's guru sets from Fxpansion. Seriously solid

Thanks for the explanation Jens, but I get terrible feedback, crackling and delay (in regard to the reverb send signal) when doing it like this, even if I turn the volume down a lot.

Mys setup is this:
https://stash.reaper.fm/oldsb/27030/screenshot.jpg

Edit: The Revearb is delayed for the drumtracks (a huge delay actually).

Congratulations: you created a feedback-loop!

Now we at least know that the computer doesn't neccessarily explode if you do this. *hehe*

You have master/parent send enabled, which is always 1/2 and you send the same stereo-channel to 'BD' (so it goes to 'BD' and from there back to the parent ('Drums') and from there to 'BD' again etc. ad infinitum).

If you wouldn't allow feedback-routing you'd get silence with that routing - it's a safety-net - that's why it's there by default and that's why it says '[USE CAUTION]'.

Look again at my screenshot:

I use 3/4,5/6,7/8 for the sub-tracks - 1/2 then goes out to the master.

DK+ -> 3/4/5/6/7/8 = subtracks -> 1/2 = parent track -> master out

Thanks Jens, now it works at least sometimes (and sometimes the reverb is still delayed). This is actually quite cool, since I am finally able to hide the single drumtracks in the TCP!

yes, that's the reason I do it - but then I also had another idea:

at the bottom I have one (minimized) folder containing all my send-channels - likewise you could have another one for all the groups and stuff.

b.t.w.: what skin are you using? I looks quite good!

I wouldn't put out the theme until Justin makes your exact theme possible. Otherwise, it's going to be a bad theme that will be used by some, until someone else makes a better theme.

You're not missing anything by waiting on the program to change to you. No one else will be missing a compromised theme either. Abandon ship, v. 2 of Reaper is not ready for you.

I have no problem waiting on your theme to become a reality.

Abort all efforts and wait for everyone to catch up to you. You've proven you're ahead of the pack in regards to what a theme should be. Blatantly proven. No one can argue that at all. If they do they are wasting hand motions
I think this is still a great theme, even with the "compromise" It's more about the way it feel on your eyes in general, and this one is still great.

Default Still Possible

For the most part...aside from some of the meter displays you're hoping to achieve, it can come pretty close to what you originally intended.

I personally feel sometimes that are best work is done when it's pushed to it's limit. Think of this as having a great tool that just can't do exactly what you want (sounds like the Beatles recording Sgt Pepper on a 4 track :-).

And for Larry Gates' usual crude remarks I think that version 2 is excellent. Also, whenever you feel it has a bug or is missing something Justin is quick to jump on the user's requests & comments from this very forum to keep the audio prototype system alive...after all that is and was his original intention to design the software this way:-).

If skinning is such a great idea (in Reaper's current state) then I ask you this:

Why is it that nobody has been able to produce anything that looks as cohesive or complete or handsome as, say, Nuendo 4 or Logic 8 or Samplitude 10?

Forget whether you like those other apps or not, just look at them in terms of pure aesthetics. They look, at the very least, business-like.
Maybe you answered your own question with Nuendo 4 Logic 8 and Samplitude 10. Since Reaper is at version 2 and considerably younger maybe when it reaches version 4, 8, or 10 the gui will mature as well? I personally find those three apps you mention to be very unpleasing to the eye. The problem with "one skin with different color variations" is you'll never find a GUI that pleases everybody. What if you thought that "one skin" to be ugly no matter what color variation it used? With Reaper's skinning ability and the generous contributions of many talented Artists I've been able to put together a skin from several different themes, pick the colors I like and make Reaper look the way I want and functional for my workflow as well. Would I like to see more advances in Reaper's interface? Of course, but patience my friends. Let's have this discussion when Reaper hits version 10 or 8 or 4............

Default Well Said Teksonik

I feel that you hit this nail right on it's crooked little head. So many of us are not fully happy with the GUI of Reaper, but the reality is that it's growing. I would much rather have Reaper surpass those other apps in what it can do than just sit by the wayside and pen the perfect graphic combo. Although many users out there choose programs on their sheer looks alone half of the time...look deeper...it's what's inside that counts.

Us Heavy People Have Feelings Too!

Kind of funny that cause i can't stand this look so the everyone tag can be dropped
I do like some of the ideas in this mock up though but that is all it is a mock up
Justin will get round to updating the GUI when he gets chance and it wont be because somebody posted a mock up thats for sure
If that was to be the case then Brices ideas would have been implememnted because a lot of them are much better ideas than anything in this thread

I have heard lots of moaning from people i introduce to Reaper about the standard GUI but that is just personal taste and in reality they have all found a theme they liked as simple as that

Reaper will become very flexible DAW also with GUI. So in the near future I'm shure that and other mock-ups will be ready for use.

That's odd I keep getting quoted, but what makes this theme really good, is that I can read everything, see the waveforms, edit them (if I could use the theme), and nothing distracts "my" eyes to the point where I lose focus. This even more so than Logic 6 - 7 - 8.

Probably Pro-Tools too. Def more than Ableton.

It's the clarity of the theme that I get excited about, because I can tell what's going on immediately by a glance.

A "lighter" version of this would be great too.
