Default M-Audio Jam Lab Really cool!

I'm no Avid fanboy, but I bet alot of other guys here have tried to find an easy way to record guitar on the fly, even if just for ideas.
I just got an M-Audio Jam Lab for 30 USD and its perfect for this. It basically works as a one trick sound card with one high-Z input, a headphone out and an ASIO driver at 24bit 44.1 or 48. You will get a clean sound recorded, and you can then use the GT Express as a VST or Amlitube, or Guitar Rig as your virtual "amp". Perfect!

The lack of sustain and bad sounds reported in some reviews all result from the so-so GT Express software. If you change the noise gate and distortion settings, it will help alot, but its not the perfect guitar plugin, just ok.

For the money Musicians Friend asks for this, it's a no brainer.
