Default Fed up with Scrolling the Arranger?

Fed up with Scrolling the Arranger?
-- going backwards and forwards to see different parts of your song,
-- or going up and down to see different tracks,
-- hiding tracks so you can compare tracks far apart, then showing them again,
-- in a big project that can use up a lot of non-creative effort.

Why not have a Split Panes function in the Arranger (just like Excel):
-- split the Arrange view vertically (for different time sections) or horizontally (for different recordings / instruments)
-- or both:

Big pics:

https://stash.reaper.fm/21841/02%20tracks.png
https://stash.reaper.fm/21842/02%20bothway.png

-- the split boundary is draggable in both directions
-- copy and paste between panes
-- might work in the Navigator, Mixer and MIDI Editor too
etc

Default Awesome idea!

+1 As a daily excel user, I would say this would help very very much.

It's obvious how the vertical split (horizontal divider) would be useful. But there is already the navigator window (View menu) for time movement.

Still, I'd like a horizontal split (vertical divider) provided that only one half of it autoscrolled (the other half could remain in fixed position until manually scrolled).

Not commenting on the feature request, just to say that once a project gets past a certain size I always use the navigator. It is a great navigator, when I first found it on a project that was 45 minutes long I almost wet myself... with the beer I had in the other hand...

It's a cool FR so +1. Perhaps the whole TCP-Arrangement panel can be detachable, docked, and allowed multiple instances. But only one edit cursor and transport bar per-project. It will be a cool thing to have for sure.

Yes, please... Except that each divider should be a scroll bar, so that each divided sub-window can be scrolled independently of the other. So... dividers as scroll bars, not just blue (red, green, whatever) line as in the mockups.

-- the blue lines are just the dividers.

The scroll bars are at the right and bottom of the Arranger view, as at present and doubled up as necessary.

But, you'd want to scroll the sub-windows independently...

here, at least it looks as if you cannot scroll teh left sub-window vertically without also scrolling the right one.

While airon's FR is being considered, how about this one?

Just simple dividers (using the ME controller lane graphics) to split the Arranger view horizontally or vertically or both.

Big pic: https://i.imgur.com/yJsiT.png

And, yes, the main bar colour would be themable.

I can see how this would be useful, but I still would prefer some kind of "bookmarking" functionality: http://forum.cockos.com/project.php?issueid=4156 as I rarely need to view 2 spots at the same time. Can do it with screensets but it's not too smooth.

About the value of having a horizontal split and navigator view: I don't just want to see the tracks, I want to be able to manipulate both areas. For example, comparing tracks 1 and 20 I might want to change eq on track 1 and listen, change volume on track 20 and listen, mute track 1, solo track 1, etc. etc. Having to jump back and forth is exhausting and encourages me not do to work that I would if it were easier.

Horizontal split gets you more tracks visible with less timeline. Vertical gets you more timeline with fewer tracks.

Well just to update my post above, we do have "bookmarking" available now so at least we can easily switch between two spots with a single toggle. actually, looks like we have up to 5 slots now for it, so we can store more than 2 positions.

i created a cycle action using the sws actions to save/restore current "arrenge" view. pretty sure it was not misspelled when i created it though... i also have the action store and recall the selected track and edit cursor position.

I do have to wonder how I missed this one. Voted for sure.

Have to look in to that arrange view restore/save stuff. I've been needing something like it for years but didn't want to hack it up.

plus a couple of mods of my own.

Default Horizotal split

Having a second arrangement window in cubase is very usful when doing arrangement edits without effecting video, dialogue, sfx and other tracks you don't want to edit.

This would be a working substitute for lacking full item locking in reaper.

Somewhere out there there's a thread of my own about the arranger split screen. Sure thing, I'd love to see this happen. Even more, perhaps, than the coveted (drumroll) track height lock.

+1 from me, too.

Cubase has this horizontal arrange split, and its a godsend when working with large orchestra templates.

It does not compare to the function of the navigator, for this horizontal split allows you to align different instruments, look at other parts while recording in another section etc.

I wish more elements were dockable, and the dock possibilities more flexible (like in Wwise, for example). I often need two MIDI editors, two Media Explorers, etc.

Not only in Arranger. Must have in Mixer too!

So each pane could be assigned to shortcut to show/hide.

Indefinite number of panes (sidecars).
