Everything Automatically for those whose sound cards support. This is just a stupid example.

Saying something should be not implemented because is gear is not supported makes no sense.
IT's like don't support 192000 recording because my soundcard just has 48000.

I'm constantly jumping between tracking and mixing, and every time I do, I have to go the preferences and set the block size to something appropriate.

Not a huge time loss, but still, REAPER has spoiled me and taught me that if I do something really often, there must be a way to optimize it, and make it efficient so that I can focus on music

Having an API to set this preference from script would be really useful.
This would allow, for example, to create project startup scripts that would set the block size to a high value for a mixing project and a low one for the new project template.

Other have suggested toolbar buttons for switching between tracking/mixing block size which is a really cool idea.
Switching to common values with shortcuts as well.
The less menus the better !

All in all, this is definitely not a deal breaker, but having that feature would allow for faster workflows and an even more tailored experience (so cool to have everything at your fingertip!)

Being able to put block size on a toolbar would be really handy.

In reapack search "Toggle bypass all project FX with latency (PDC) higher than X samples". More scripts if you just write "Toggle bypass"
MPL has a good script that can help in some requests.
Not a buffer size change but a workaround for those who switch from rec to mix on the fly.
Hope it helps

It's 2021 now. Are we anywhere close to getting this? Perhaps a simple script that changes the value within 'Request block size' using a hotkey? I know that no reaper script can alter the settings of the audio interface itself, but it can adjust the settings within reaper correct? So it can change the 'request block size' parameter? And if an audio interface doesn't support that then I guess there's nothing to do - sadly my MOTU M4 does not respond to the 'request block size' parameter :/

Maybe with a community effort and we could make this happen with JS extension?

@deeb I read someone mentioning it would be possible with JS API, but I wasn't able to make it work. If anyone has a clue on how to do it, I'll be happy to try again

Meanwhile: +1 again for this FR

I too would find such a feature incredibly useful, if it's at all possible. I always change my buffer size in my MOTU 1248's IP page ('the software'). I wish I could have a dedicated button / shifter for buffer sizes, so I don't have to move over to another virtual desktop/window and hunt it down in the MOTU page.

ESPECIALLY because I just realized today that buffer size affects render time. So I'd really really like to set my rendering to a max buffer size, then switch it back to what it was, if that's even possible.

At the very least, a button to cycle up/down buffer sizes would be excellent.

This is exactly what I wanted. But from whatever I have read, it is not going to be possible currently due to big differences in how the buffer settings work in different audio interfaces. And dunno if Cockos will ever consider doing this natively :/

I am very interested in this FR as well. Sorry I'm not adding anything useful to the thread other than bumping it TTT.

There is a 3rd script! Very convenient! Works like a charm! can't find it right now, but look for script creator Souk21.
