This book looks at this very issue. It seems as if hard work is often incorrectly labeled talent.

Talent + hard work, the winning combination.
Too bad I can't get more of the former and I'm too lazy for the latter

Showed a kid 5 Maj Pentatonic shapes in key of G Maj. Isolated the diads on the treble e and b strings, played some slides connecting the diads, now he's one step closer to finding that Eagles-style sound he's looking for.

Talent, hard work, incredible passion and love for the art of music, is often mislabeled as genius.

talent could also relate to luck?

for example coming up with a good riff, or a nice song title

Hard work is 90% of it.

Luck..you're very lucky if thinking up tunes is something you find easy.

But it means nothing without the work to realise it.

Default talented and ignored?

Most people with talent - no matter how hard they work - end up with lives where their talent is generally unrecognized and unrewarded.

Example from a guy who died recently.
