Default MIDI Velocity to Control FX

Can the MIDI velocity of a MIDI track be used to modulate the FX parameters on that track, or any other track ?

For eg : the velocity of the kick drum sequence to modulate the cutoff / or opening of the filter.

Am I missing something obvious ?

thanks in advance

It all depends.

Some VSTis have a Modulation Matrix which will allow you to map the incoming MIDi Velocity to the Filter Cutoff. I don't know, offhand, about Filter FX with such a Modulation Matrix

The messy way would be:
-- convert MIDI notes velocity into a CC message values, have a look at:
http://forum.cockos.com/showthread.php?t=21320
-- route the MIDI CC messages into the Automation path, using MIDItoReaControlPath,
-- MIDI learn those CC messages to thefilter's Cutoff parameter

thanks ! i knew it had something to do with one of them nifty js thingy's.....

just one clarification :

while reaper is playing the midi sequence in question, the midi cc data will be going out (into reaper ether space ?) and when i select midi learn for some parameter, Reaper will recognize it as an incoming midi cc message (just like if i was moving a slider on a midi device), right ?

i intially was looking at possibly using reaper modulation feature to do it, but alas there was no way to link velocity to CC

let me chk out your ingenious solution and get back to you
