Default Muted midi?

Had this problem in every DAW i've used, and never really found an explanation. Unfortunately i'm adapting a piece from a midi and the time has come for me to fix it.

I import a multitrack midi. In this case track one is working and running into Kontakt, all fine. Track 2 however, does nothing, regardless of vst. I can even copy and paste phrases from the piano roll of the event on track 2, into the event on track 1, and those notes will be silent. Totally confused, anyone explain this to me?

Can you post the MIDI as an attachment and also a small Reaper project file that shows the problem.

It will be down to routing or MIDI channels, I am sure. And easily solvable.

Track 2 is the one i can't get any signal from. I can play my keyboard, and it works, but it just doesn't read the notes. Odd!

Would be amazing if you could figure it out!

I couldnīt open the specific Kontakt instrument cause I donīt have Alicias Keys, but I noticed, that the midiclip on track 2 contains notes which are on midi channel 5, while the midi clip on track 1 contains notes on midi channel 1.
Try setting Kontakt on track 2 to midi channel 5. I believe this will do the trick.

Edit: Just tried it with a piano from the factoy content and I can confirm that siwtching Kontakt on the 2.track to channel 5 works. :-)

Also try these, there are 3 different project files with the midi tracks on separate tracks.

01 samplemidisession (Add 2 midi tracks) 1 <This is the same Project file you posted but I added 2 tracks for the midi.

02 samplemidisession (Import Midi) 1 <This is just two midi tracks I ended up with after importing the Midi file you included.

03 samplemidisession (Combined Midi) 1 <This is the Midi combined to one track and sent to Kontakt. Load your piano into Kontakt and set it to midi channel 1.

Another question though actually, can i set those notes to Midi CH1? As not all my vstis have midi controls like Kontakt does?

I was right, then

To change the channel of MIDI notes to channel 01:
  • open the clip in the MIDI Editor
  • select the notes
  • right-click > Note Channel > 1

Inside the midi editor select all the notes within the midi clip (strg. + a). Then click on a note with the right button and select "midi channel for note selection" (something like this) at the bottom of the context menu and select the desired channel.

Edit: Aargh, beaten by two minutes :-)

But your explanation seems a little more to the point Iīve to give you that.

Hi Dragonperil, did you download my project files?

No big deal if you're not interested but I tried to show you some alternative routings that will work much better for doing multi-track midi. There's no need or reason to have two Kontakt VSTis loaded for just two midi tracks. Actually I think the two midi tracks you had were basically for just one piano instrument?
