Brown in the Default 5 theme
Personally i love default theme, except: colors.
I'm one of those, who hate brown, green and yellow colors. Never had a car or cloth in these colors anything and these colors are... depressing me and they are destroying my creativity.
IMHO I know, there is more people, who like blue, purple, red colors than brown, yellow and green. Just enough to look at cars people are driving.
Keep in mind, that cars with colors like Reaper are not selling as well as others.
I've tried change colors of meters and that has worked, but I can't get rid of that brown and dark brown bg almost everywhere.
I hate even colors of this forum... greenish.
But that is no anyone fault, just preferences and taste. Even in music I love blue, red and sounds do have colors.
So I was searching for std theme with no brown in it at all.
Does such theme exists?
I know, that other themes have nice colors but... not as clever as the basic clear Default 5 theme.
Maybe someone has Default 5 theme with deep blue underground instead of... brrrrr.... brown.
Unfortunately beer is yellow and whisky is brown but... I can put up with these ones! :-) Easy!!!!!!
I can't do theme like that by myself.
Help!!!!!

There is no brown in the Default theme; the backgrounds are dark grey. This could be because the colour calibration on your monitor is off, but the most common cause I see with users is that you are using OSX and have the wrong color profile assigned for your display.

Unfortunately I have a bad news for you.
I'm not on a MAC.
I have used 3 different monitors and I always use NVidia cards (I'm ex IT expert) and I've never use any special settings in NVIDIA s/ware.
On all 3 monitors Reaper is dark brown.
I have 3 computers and 3 monitors and... it's still dark brown.
So that's bad news for you. You may have some problem with your monitor.
Or... your eyes are not working properly. You can test them on special on line tests.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CWyrp3hu4KE
I just have past all tests! :-)
Many people have these problems, mainly men.
Nothing to be ashamed.
Another thing you may consider as well. I'm an expert on colors.
I had panel and pain shop for 14 years and I was matching colors all the time. Than
I was employed for 8 years for... matching colors.
So I have 22 years of matching colors.
I'm not trying to be disrespectful or unkind. I'm telling you what I know and I know well with a huge experiences.
Many people have such problems, at least 1 in 10 so don't be surprise.
Since you are working with colors, better know these things and be prepared for some surprises.
Also, you can find someone almost totally colorblind.
Kind regards...

Hello,
There are no browns in the default theme. Open up the the Theme Tweaker and you can see the RGB (red / green / blue) values for the backgrounds. Unpack the theme and have a look in the image folder and you can have a look at the RGB values for any image by opening the image in something like paint.net using the color picker to check the RGB values. Or, simply take a screenshot of the theme and open that in paint.net and use the color picker to check the color (RGB value) of anything...

If you've not set it then it possibly won't be using the correct colour profile for your monitors. But if your computer is displaying #333333 as brown, the problem is on your end.

You're right!
I just made a pic form Reaper, put it into Photoshop and checked it out.
rgb all 51 and #333333
Coding is showing grey, but it looks brown.
I have added a jpg and not sure if will show it.
But on three monitors LCD ASUS 27", LG 21" and Samsung 21" looks brown.
I don't know why, some flicker or angle... looks... brown.
When I just made a pic with rgb all 0 0 0 than it looks really black.
Especially when you looking from some angle, looks really brown.
Just checked Rado V4... looks grey and black.
Janno Albinos looks grey.
FremaFM and FremaAM look bluish grey
All Default 5.0 version are looking brownish or brown.
Most likely it's such specific shade which despite REAL color looks brown.
Hmmm... I'm working sometimes with web pages and some colors looking different in
BlueGriffon and when I put them in Chrome or Firefox, they are looking different.
I was investigating it but I could not find any answer.
Since #333333 coding or rgb which is web coding as well, that would be the answer.
Numbers and colors are not always matching.
That looks like coding is correct but the display is not perfect IMHO.
So no one is wrong and no one is right. There is some problem which I have spotted in CSS coding and I don't have an answer for it!
One thing I'm sure. That 'grey' look brown for my eyes and my 3 monitors.
Sorry White Tie!!!!

That one is easy. That below is a little harder.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DZp_6NZGc08
But I was able to make it without a single mistake.
However I was doing much harder tests and on two or three last ones I've made mistakes.
I don't think your one eye (sorry my friend!) make MUCH difference. But on longer run it can make a difference.
With matching colors the problem is not so much your good vision, but the knowledge what to add (or take out) from the color you're trying to match.
It's so complex, that a big book could be written about it.
Some examples.
You matching color and next car to your sample is red and you are matching different color.
No chances of matching. It's like matching in red color lamp.
In sun light in the noon it's the best time to match colors. Before 11:00 AM and after 16:00 PM don't match, especially gold, yellow or brown colors.
No chances of matching.
In artificial light is the same or... worse.
But... that will not solve the brown problem with Reaper.
But if someone can change and all of those brown make into more blue, I would love it and maybe many others.
With a current Default 5.0 theme I can see 2 problems. To make version 6.
1. Of course brown, but that's my personal preferences. Just make 2 options, please! :-)
2. Writing on sends, inserts, etc are almost perfect on RADO-V4. You can read and can see properly the volumes. Current one is BAD! I'm forced to type numbers.
3.A little 3d graphics. And will be IMHO perfect for most people.

Which tweak? Almost certainly yes; Reaper themes are mostly OS independent.

Just few days ago I have solved one problem regards colors for web designed.
There are problems with proper display colors in different browsers.
I have no idea, how works color system in Reaper, but since we're talking #444557 it
sound like the same system. In web design it's css.
Playing with code until the display is as planned and differences can be significant.
I was playing with code until I got right color in Chrome.
I’m suspecting the same thing is happening with Reaper.

It doesn't. Browsers use color profiles, Reaper just uses the system color space just like almost everything else. Here's what has probably happened: Either your screen is uncalibrated or your system color settings have been messed with, you have now corrected this in Chrome when you should have corrected this on your monitor or system color settings.
I'm trying to help you, please allow yourself to be helped. Anyway, this is a theme tweaking reference thread, so if you want to continue this discussion please start a new thread.

Huberkinky, I'm with you on the colors. They never look like the colors in the color selection area (or the default theme) and always come out either gaudy bright or (like you said) depressing brown, etc. It must be something to do with the background that go over (usually grey). I sure would like to see someone take this on and improve it. FYI - I use and love the Janne theme and the color tranlation is the only thing I find lacking.

I have no idea how it's working, but... the people on this forum - if something is not on THEIR mind - they are usually not very nice, sometimes even hostile.
However most people love colors they have on their... cars!
So that's a minority because bronze cars are not very popular at all.
So you would expect- many would agree. Not so!
I know why. Because Justin loves these colors! :-))))
His first program Winamp was brown/gold, but many people were immediately changing skins.
I have no problem with someone taste. This is not important to me.
However it's important for me, that I have a right to have a choice, which is a my choice and I'm not imposing MY CHOICE on others. I want to have a color I like.
In Reaper I can't adjust std theme, which is most sensible for me, except the colors. It's there many themes but I could not find one with colors I like with typical std theme. I have made colors for that theme which is working to some extend to my liking, but on brown bg I just gave up and waiting for a new Reaper.
Maybe will have one skin with no brown colors! :-)
Would be nice to have an option to change these colors by touch of the button.
In music IMHO this is very important, because the music is the mood of compose/mixer. And brown color of DAW has a negative impact on you.
Not a major problem but it is a problem to some degree. I have no problem with this forum (green - works with brown! hahahaha) because I'm not working on forum for hours. So i does not matter.
But DAW it's like a Windows. You are starring on it sometimes 8 hours per day.
And with Windows you have a choice and you can have your colors, your wallpaper etc.
Having what you like makes you feel good. And that's Microsoft' idea for you to feel good with their Windows!
Do you see my drift!?

Ironic. The professional graphic designer who has been doing the Reaper GUI for over a decade tried to help you, and you responded smugly by telling him to get his eyes checked, and that you're an "expert on colors."
If everywhere you go smells like poop...

I'm not sure why this even needs to be discussed - as WT said, the theme is grey. You can verify this by looking at the images in Photoshop and grabbing pixels with the color picker.
If it looks brown, that's your computer or your monitor or your eyes or your brain.

Your original post about unzipping theme and tweak helps. However above text does not and it's insulting. YouÂ’re still suggesting that IÂ’m a moron and I donÂ’t know what IÂ’m talking about.
I have told you that I have at least 4 different monitors and I had a business selling PC's and monitors. I have never needed to calibrate monitors, including mine. Only one thing I was adjusting - brightness and contrast.
Once I have calibrated a monitor for a client, who was using Adobe Photoshop in his business. Not only colors have to be adjusted but even brightness, because images have to look right on any standard monitors.
But for usual usage of a computer, Internet etc. usually colors in factory setup are OK.
I have solved my problem by adjusting colors on my Reaper monitor, and while I hate some different screens with plugins etc, I love now Reaper, because I'm not using that machine for anything else.
I'm waiting for a new Reaper and frankly, I don't have time and will to fight with this stuff again.

As was pointed out in your original thread, there is no brown cast to the theme. This is very easy to check by taking a screenshot, opening it in Photoshop or something, and checking the colors being used.

There are several reasons why you see gray colour as brown:
1. monitors often have built-in profiles. We often chose a profile which helps our eyes. It results in shifting displayed colors toward warm ones
2. your monitor is not calibrated in your operating system
3. partially related to #1. How we see colors highly depends on surrounding (diffused light)

Which square or which letter?
The squares are the same color, though the square A seems darker
(the square B is in the shadow — so our mind takes it into account).
The letter B is slightly darker than the letter A and thus more readable.
Interesting stuff, thanks )

Shame. I had recently taken the OP off my ignore list because of similar previous behaviour and there he goes again. @OP: everyone else in the world is pretty unlikely to be wrong. Could be you?
And as far as I read his comments, WT has been significantly less "direct" with you than he has been with others in the past.
Take a deep breath and SMILE before posting in future. Not that I will see it.

You probably need to change the light bulbs in your studio. The old light bulb I had in my 'studio' had a blueish colder tone, and the new one has a warmer tone, it makes dark greys look slightly brownish.
