Procrastinators Anonymous
Hi, my name is Poofox and I'm a procrastinator...
I know I'm far from the only one who has trouble finishing things and I think part of the reason for it is that writing solo, I'm not accountable to anyone else to ever even finish my tracks.
Anyways, the premise here is that anyone who wants to face their fear of finishing declares their intent to be done with a musical track or project by a certain date. Why not post WIP here and maybe get some feedback along the way?
But what's done is done.
Start any day.
Is it today?
Maybe tomorrow?
Rules:
1. Declare your intent to finish a song & set a date...
2. Link your finished track by your deadline...
3. It can be something new or something in progress; one song or a comprehensive box set of your life's work...
4. But you must complete it or else! Shame! Shame! Shame...
Who's in?

I like the idea. Can it be an old song, as in not an original, self-composed? I am reworking a version I did in Audacity a few years back of Buddy Holly's Raining in My Heart!

FoxAsteria, do you mind giving us a reminder when we are approaching the deadline please?

I'm almost sort of ready to commit to this. Golly. It's a swell idea.
Maybe there should be a more severe consequence for not making the deadline, such as loss of a digit.
Will come back to sign up at a later date...

Losing a 1 or a zero doesn't sound very serious to me... unless it makes the files unreadable?😉

I suspect I might be cheating... Going in a pro studio with my band Monday to do three or four songs, none of which are finished yet but will be Monday night.

If you post it here, I'll put a link up in OP #2.
@ivansc - you want me to hold you to that? After all, it looks like I'll be procrastinating the whole month and full of self loathing by crunch time...no surprises there.

yea it's pretty much just us at this point. it probably could have gained more traction if someone other than me had posted it, honestly. but who knows, maybe some are procrastinating facing their fears....

Do you have a sample of the kind of music you play, so I know what to expect when our works are placed side by side?
I am surprised there are not more participants are I see lots of people in the Reaper forums here champing at the bit to get people to listen to their productions!
Make a it a bit more flexible maybe so everyone has to post their latest achievement by the deadline set. Hopefully this will also encourage the likes of us foot-draggers.
With the proviso that no-one is too harsh about our efforts, particularly mine.

check my sig below. i've been doing this a quarter of a century and still not quite satisfied with the results... comparison isn't worth much though, i think. no matter how good we get there's always someone better.

You mean you have been playing music for 25 years?

Your music is most impressive, I must say.
I'm just an old folkie, I am afraid.
So don't expect anthing off-beat from me, off-key yes!
My son-in-law Koenraad has quite a few groups on the go and one of them, "Stray Dogs" is seriously experimental:
https://www.discogs.com/artist/1933225-Stray-Dogs
I don't know if you have the time, or energy but maybe you could set up a Reaper musician forum / site (Soundcloud, for instance), where all the eager-beaver musicians would be invited to send their latest musicial achievements by a certain deadline. All recorded and mixed in Reaper.
Just an idea so as not to allow your initiative to go to waste. What do you, or anybody else, think about the idea?

Thanks for the compliment. If we get some more people interested by the time our tracks are due next month, I'll do a SoundCloud or something to collect them.
And I'll check out Stray Dogs later this eve...

I think it should be 3 weeks just to audition the fx and vsti's, another 2 for the snare drum..
But I'm afraid that if I put up my half finished songs, someone will steal them, and even more afraid that no one will want to steal them.
I might do it though, e.g I got some unfinished metal songs with lyrics like -
Evil arising
Bad to the core
Demigods take turns in
Riding satan's whore
________
I'm pretty sure there's some improvements to be made there, thread might simply need a bit of an exorcism though if my metal lyrics appear.

Lol. Yea, I'm a little butt-hurt that no one has tried to steal my songs in all these years...maybe if I charged money, people would want them more.
Shall I put you down for Aug 13, then? I try to keep in mind Yep's timeless advice, "Finished is better than perfect." But I've been procrastinating these projects for the better part of my whole life, so it's something I certainly needed to hear.
Seriously though, finishing songs sucks. No one else is gonna polish your rocks.

I run a "recordingfest" at another forum, and I have a reveal scheduled for August 1...I'm tracking a song (a cover of a song about automobiles) for it but I've been kind of avoiding working on it and I need to get it done...if that works for your challenge count me in...

Yeh okay, I'm in, I'll post something soonish that I'm trying to find the last pieces of the puzzle for.

Yep's a great source for everything to do with home studio recording. I've DLd the zip file as reference material.

Agreed, the temptation is to move on without finishing which can lead to that song never being finished or in need of a total redo unless all the same fx are available etc.
Better to strike while the iron's at least still warm.

I admit to a few *gulp* moments but the engineer is a real sweetheart & has already offered us the use of all the amps guitars etc that they have AND is letting me try my Rode Classic Mk1 on my vocals! It feels like when I used to be NearLy Famous years ago, all over again. Just hope I can cut it. All 4 songs done and ready to record, btw.
I also have another four old ones I want to get done, but on another day.

Well, I was going to chime in last week to commit to doing a new song in July. I got the bug yesterday and wrote a song, then recorded the whole recording live on YouTube. I'll share it here, it's nothing extraordinary, but it was still fun. And there, I did it.

I didn't watch it all yet but very cool idea. I've got to try that video document the entire process idea. Thanks for sharing! Nice to see the humanity of this craft. Sidenote: Your studio name is one of my nicknames (K-Dub) because my initials are KW.
