ACMEBARGIG Shred
Seems they released the Shred bundle:
http://www.acmebargig.com/shred/
Sorry if this is in the wrong forum, not sure if they're still put in here or not.

Real Nice!!
Ive been playing with this for a while today & I'm loving it.
I actually cant believe its free. I really love the layout, so much choice, combine different heads & cabs, Mic placement & killer distortion. It also comes with lots of presets.

Just when I was thinking of buying Studio Devils AMP.
I'm not saying Shreds better than AMP but I think this is the start of Acmebargig's all in one ala Amplitube, Studio Devil AMP & Guitar rig. A Long way to go maybe, but its a great start.

I went to school with some Augers, or 1 Auger, can't quite remember. Matt was his name, though this was 30 years ago =/.
I don't get around hillman much.
Yeah, and Port Huron too. I know there was a Day-Twaa (or something similar) on here a while ago, which I guessed right away, having lived there for around 10 years.

You know, you actually need to hit strings and bend them to make Shred useful.

:-) Mt Clemens here :-) had no idea there were so many around me who really use this stuff, never met too many. Although I have to admit I don't get out much, kids sure do keep me busy.
Born in Canada so we have something else in common Ken :-) Thanks for the new amp.

HAHA Hey Fretted, hows things? Hey did you get your hosting settled, I told Scott we may be hosting you for a bit..
Thanks guys for your comments...we worked our tails off on it. The update 1.07 will be coming soon as well, that contains fixes t errors found in this release..
Mr Moon, yep 48k max. But I do have a very solid reasoning and explanation for that...

please share, because that means its completely useless to anyone using higher sample rates -- which is quite a number of people.
unless the reason is "go buy v2", then i suppose that makes sense.

I've been playing around with this for a few days now, & I think it's really good. The Marvel is my favorite so far, but I really haven't gotten into the other heads much. Great sounding amp sim IMHO......

Thanks guys
Shaun...simply put I cannot support anything above 48k and keep the CPU within our tolerances. Not without down sampling in the plug, skipping samples, etc. I don't want to do that, so, maybe in future we can support higher samplerates, but right now I can't support them in the way that I want to, so I don't..We are up front about it, is it gonna cost me customers, yep sure is, but if I was motivated by money, I would not have been giving away freeware all this time..Yes I want to make money at this, who would'nt? But I also want to do it on terms that I deem honorable...
"unless the reason is "go buy v2", then i suppose that makes sense."
I would never do that. The reason that I did not include the Gain section mods and Tonestack mods is simply because I do not have that portion written. It may show up in one of the 1.x series before version 2.0, but the goal is to have that written by version 2.0
Hope that helps..
km

Perhaps, but I'll still be in the same situation, releasing a plug that functions far outside of our internal limit. Like if Shred is running at 30% at 44.1 on the development system, its running at 92% at 96k on he development system. Until you start hopping samples, and other destructive reduction techniques that can bring it right back down as far as 36%, but since you're not processing all the samples, whats the point? The user does not get any better of a sound IMO. So, our thinking is they might as well record at 44 or 48 save the cpu and use it on extra effects.

I tried ACME Bar Gig Shred just today, as I am writing on a thread about Amp-Sims for another Forum and have tested a nunber of Free Amp-Sims for this purpose.
I must say "Shred" looks very nice and has all the needed ingredients.
I will surely use it for Acidlines and Organs, but there is just that few percent missing for me personally to give it the real thumbs up for Guitar Sounds. As with most things, this is purely a matter of personal taste.
Thank you for releasing the effect for free. I will use it

Yeah CPU use makes it pretty unusable for me. It's over 50% at 44.1 on my old machine. Blerg...

This is one of those plugins that's really not meant to be active during mixdown... Freeze it before you do any more mixing. Just costs you some disk space.

my thinking is always to move forward; processors get exponentially faster every year. if a plug takes 90% of my i7, so be it. my computer will be faster soon and i will not sacrifice quality for the inconvenience of freezing -- if i need to freeze the track, thats fine with me. if your plug is hitting 30%-50% on a "normal" machine, its already well outside the bounds of a cpu friendly plug and freezing or other measures must be considered into the workflow anyway. but im certainly not going to track everything else at 44.1 or 48 in order to use one plug that i like. i hear the benefits of 88.2 too much to do that.

What is your old machine wilkesin?
What kind of recording systems are you guys running...I am at 30% on the development system
Single core
P4 2.4GHZ
768 MB Ram
Which TBH given its modeling an amp, overdrive, room, Cabinets and tonal correction is respectable..IMO
The idea that someone would expect to use a system of limited resources like our development system for multi-track recording without freezing is out of bounds. For multi-track without freezing, lets be real, we are expecting a little more...at least a couple gigs of Ram and 3 Ghz single core processor..Even then you will be limited.
We can only do so much guys..
KM

May I take the opportunity (since you ask) to say what I would like please (see a previous post somewhere)
a) a larger selection of IR's or the ability to import your own (complete with drop down list). I particularly miss open back cabs of the 2x12 variety. I would have to rely on another convo loader in order to use an IR that actually sounds like an AC30, which just happens to be my favourite cab type
b) The colour filters from the series 60 - especially the Green and Blue ones
c) Lose the "fizz" filter or whatever it's called, and replace with HP & LP filters (with frequency adjust)
d) FX-wise, I don't know for sure, but I think the FX are post speaker Impulse. this is more like a console insert, and not at all like an amp FX loop, so the FX should either be pre-cab pre-power amp, or better still you could have a "pre-post" switch.
e) A simple Gain Boost switch that keeps the level much the same, not to make it higher gain but to give instant access to the "Clean v Distorted" selection. For me amp simulation is not just about simulating the sound, but also simulating the way you work with a real amp, and a boost/channel switch is very much the norm
f) A simple compressor (pre & post amp)
I do appreciate that some of these options may be available in Shred 2, and Shred is already awesome (for free!) in it's own right, but you did ask
Thanks for all the work Ken, I hope don't sound ungrateful. This is fantastic! Most of the pre-sets are very good indeed, and there certainly isn't anything to complain about. I just thought you might find my comments useful

i7 950 (quad)
12 gigs RAM @ 9-9-9-24
x58 chipset
1.5tb 7200.11 for OS's
3x 1.5tb 7200.11's striped for Samples and Audio
lynx aes16e connecting apogee

everyone i deal with that does their own tracking has at least a core 2 duo, which is a pretty big leap in power from a P4
