Default Automation problem with writing Mute via X32?

Hi All,

I'm new to Reaper but have extensive knowledge in Logic and other DAW's.

I have an X32 configured as a control surface via X32Reaper and the desk talks perfectly to Reaper and vice versa, but this is irrelevant.

When I activate automation "Write" or any other mode apart from "Trim/Read", the changes I make to a channels "Mixer" channel are not reflective in the channel strip? and similarly not recorded during a record pass?

I have tried the current v6 build as well as the original build with the same effect. I'm on Mac Catalina using the 64 builds.

Thanks for your help,

Anthony.

Activate Write and Arm.

Leave armed and switch to read once done.

Thanks for the reply. Yes, I've done that.

1. select the track for automation.
2. enable the paths I want to record
3. enable global "write".
4. record.

Nothing is recorded.

Update. Tried on a single channel when not connected to the desk and this has worked? but when connected to the desk, settings from the desk are not recorded even though they seen in "Trim/Read". and also settings made in the UI are not passed to the desk? It's only seeing the UI in those modes?

Can you screencap your automation panel for the track.

Had to save it as PDF so that I could get it with enough resolution for the upload...

In this state, the desk doesn't see changes made to the mute what made via desk or lower part of UI (or in fact the top left).

Fader control is however being recorded.

I would obviously like to be able to record everything the desk is doing?

Also seems like track name changes aren't being recorded either?

Ant.

I've just been testing other parameters as "Mute" is my most important..

Pan and Fader seem to be working, input "Gain" appears not to be mapping? but I guess as a reply that wouldn't matter?

Edited as hadn't read the last post!

Sorry but I'm struggling to comprehend what exactly this means. Are you simply saying muting on the x32 does not mute on the reaper mixer in this state? But it does in other states?

The automation panel I wanted to see is the dialogue where you choose the automation envelopes....I think from what you've shown everything is probably correct but maybe still worth checking that.

Correct. In "Trim/Read", if I press mute on the desk the channel in Reaper mutes and if I mute it on Reaper it mutes on the desk.

In any other automation writing mode the mute setting from the desk is ignored in Reaper. Looks like I can record from Reaper, but the button state in does not change in Reaper or the desk? but records as automation?

Yeah... I can record automation of fader and pan from the desk now, but not the mute from the desk.

I appreciate your help!

The long term goal is that the X32 is controlled by another program during the show. So I want to be able to record the desk state as well as the audio at the same time.

Mute button state on the reaper gui doesn't really change when in write mode. But if you put that track into read and play back, you should see the mute button go on and off in Reaper mixer.

If that works but it does not control your X32 channel mute at the same time then I'm stumped I'm afraid.

Yes, thats the only place it's working. Not passing that change to the desk and not responding to the desk mute.

This is working for you? Recording mute from the desk?

I can't see that it's the desk? has to be Reaper? as it plays back okay?

Is there a bug report URL?

Works perfectly with my single channel Aphatrack controller.

Which makes me think it's not a Reaper bug as such but something in the X32Reaper controller driver.

Thanks for your help! Much Appreciated!!

I'll continue to dig. Not having channel names recorded is also a big disappointment.

Thanks,

Ant.

Having just tried it on Windows, I can confirm that the same is apparent. I slightly confused now to where the issue lies. If its's working for other controllers I would think it's X32Reaper? but then no one else has reported it?

I would maybe edit the post to change the thread title to something more specific to the problems that you're left with and then hope some other X32 users see it and join the conversation.

I checked/debugged X32Reaper 1 line at a time while sending the track mute/unmute request, both in the case automation/write being on or off in REAPER. This is going exactly through the same 10 lines of C code, and result in the same OSC buffers being sent.

When data is coming from OSC and automation/write in REAPER is OFF, OSC does control mute/unmute correctly.
When data is coming fromOSC and automation/write in REAPER is ON, OSC mute on does work, OSC mute off does not. i.e. the /track/xx/mute ,f 0 (OSC properly formatted) has no effect or is not taken into account by REAPER.

Patrick, Thank you for taking the time to debug the OSC. I thought I was going mad. I'll try and submit a bug report.

Anthony.
