Limitation to 8 audio channels per video item

If I import a Matroska video with 16 channels of audio, the resulting media item has only the first 8 channels.

Is it possible to work with video files, that have more than 8 audio tracks?

I work with higher order Ambisonics and would be very happy, if Reaper could read a mkv video with 16 channel uncompressed audio.

Can you confirm, that this is not (yet) possible?

There are a lot of issues with various multichannel audio formats in videos, unfortunately... best bet is probably to export the audio separately.

... so Reaper is perfect for audio, but video editing ist just a nice to have feature. :-)
