Default Colour Swatch window - needs a good colour list

I've just created the first version of a colour swatch window that can apply colour to a track. I've posted all the details here, and since it's a Lua script, it is for the 5.0 pre-release only!:

http://forum.cockos.com/showpost.php...2&postcount=34

My question for the graphic designers here is what colours I should include in the window.

For the first version of the window I chose to use a colour list aquired from here: http://cloford.com/resources/colours/500col.htm , because I've always preferred named colours whenever possible. They were always easier to remember to me.

This naturally looks a little chaotic with a list of over 500 colours.

What colours should be included here and in what order ?

Would anyone like to create such a list? If so, you can edit it in the script itself and test it right away instantly. Just load it in to the script editor of Reaper (5.0pres only, remember) and hit CTRL+S to save and execute. The script window will pop up with the colour swatches.

Also, would a generated bunch of colours across the hue spectrum be a better choice ? If so why ?

I would recommend a Pantone color set ... as seen here:

Prepare your lists ladies and gentlemen.

It gave me the idea to include sets, triggered by buttons at the top, sort of like presets. Simple little buttons "Full", "Pastels", "Greys" and so on.

firstly ... how do I use this? I have one of the pre versions of 5.xx, 64 bit

I have loaded the lua script into the actions

but when I run it nothing really happens...

secondly, about the colors...

Because of how diff themes use colors, it is gonna depend a lot on both the theme and the user... Some like very strong colors and other tend toward the pastel hues... I am of the latter group. I color the whole track and item so the strong colors look really garish to my eye, but the pastels look OK.

Having a zillion choices is to me too much. Besides, because of how reaper and diff themes accept and display colors, a slight variation in the shade or depth of a given color is not very distinguishable on the screen.

So, [again just IMO] what I like it to have more limited sets.
I really only would want to see a set of colors that CAN be distinguished on screen... NOT 15 shades of say yellow that mostly look the same on screen... you see?

So I'd prefer to have a smaller selection in one script, for example named Soft Colors.lua, and then another with stronger colors named Strong Colors.lua, etc. etc.

Of course other people will have other ideas...

This right here. I love this idea and I think the PT color set would be amazing as well.
