Default Recording Bass with an older Sansamp DI

Hello All,
I have a sansamp bass driver DI, one of the older original ones.
It has a 1/4 inch output, an XLR output and a parallel output.
I want to use it to record bass direct.
I am using a motu 828x interface that has 2 built in preamps and 8 additional inputs without preamps.
I am running the parallel output into a preamp channel to get an unaffected direct signal, and my question is what is the best way to record the affected output of the sansamp for lowest noise and best sound. Should I use the 1/4 inch or xlr out and should I run it into a preamp or can I go straight to the inputs without a preamp?
Thanks for any assistance!
John
