Default "Noise" on load with home-made VST?

Hi everyone-

I've built a VST for Reaper that sounds really lovely: it's essentially a feedback device.
Gain for the device is initialized to 0.0 (or -inf dB) in the code.

When I open a Reaper project that uses the VST from the beginning of the project (ie time zero), I often hear some very brief feedback noise, and often the audio network in Reaper is permanently silenced.

I tried at first a brief fade-in on the VST gain, but that didn't seem to work. On a second try, I added a half-second of silence at the beginning of the project, which seems to cure the problem.

Alternatively, In preferences, I checked the "Close audio device when stopped and application is inactive," which seems to work, although I didn't spend much time with this solution.

Can anyone shed some light on what's going on, and maybe even a optimal solution?

mille grazie, Charles

Interesting, you want to post the VST so can we have a look at it?

Are all variables used in your feedback loop initialized? Maybe there is rubbish stored in one of your variables which is finding its way into your output.
