Nick Moritz, I love your RADO theme. Right now I'm getting into theming by combining RADO and Reaction themes. The reason is that I love the RADO color scheme and look, but in terms of usability, Reaction is better in my opinion simply because of its WALTER setup. Still, it's not perfect and I feel like all themers are ignoring us composers. We need WALTER options for the TCP, NOT the MCP. Everyone seems to be going crazy on the MCP.
I just want to say, please consider us composers by adding TCP customization. What I need is to see and adjust volume, panning, fx, solo, mute, dB meter when the track is at its MINIMUM height. Yes, you CAN cram all that into a tiny space and that is what I NEED.
The next thing composers need is track types. With WALTER you can get rid of controls that do not pertain to midi tracks or that do no pertain to audio tracks, and they look different so you can quickly tell them apart at a glance. I've basically achieved all this with Reaction in a way that the original creator of the theme was not thinking about at all. So... at least I have Reaction, but it's definitely not as pretty as RADO.
I'll attach a pic of my RADO/Reaction combo. It explains a lot.
If I were to design an interface completely from scratch I would go for pink, dark grey, turqoise, green, overall dark look with playful colors, kinda monotone but color where you need it for easy differentiation of elements.
I'm going to attach the REAPER logo. I would basically love to turn this REAPER logo into an entire GUI.

http://www.elanhickler.com/misc/reaction_rado_combo.png (reaper compressed the image i uploaded)
so basically to create "track types" in reaper I have hotkeys assigned to custom macro. For example, I create a reverb track and then hit my "set as FX" macro button which does this:
FX track:
1. hide from TCP
2. use custom MCP layout
3. set random color
Midi track:
1. Hide from MCP
2. use custom TCP layout
Audio track:
1. Show in TCP and MCP
2. use custom TCP layout
Folder track
1. Show in TCP and MCP
2. use custom TCP layout
this is just the tip of the iceberg. If I learned to use WALTER I could go crazy with this stuff.

I'm soo with you on this, I mean everytime I see a post about a new theme I see MCP design. Not that I dont appreciate the hard work from the themers, they make very nice looking consoles, but I'm looking for functionnality in the TCP. I use the MCP as an inspector and what I need the most on it is routing so to me all those beautifull mixer designs are a waste...
What you describe is in the line of what I need, i.e. as much control and visual feedback as possible with readable meters on REDUCED TCP, and I really would like to make my own but WALTER is not my friend for now.
In fact it would be nice to have a WALTER forum.

It is absolutely opposite to what I NEED.
I hate the volume/pan/width controls on a tcp. What you do in the mixer in this case? )))
I more prefer a tcp of Cubase

How about a skinnier mixer strip with a fader than RADO? I can only see 12 tracks on my laptop with the mixer full-screened.

I don't understand... why agree to alienating other users? You can provide an unlimited number of WALTER setups. Whatever, I'll learn to use WALTER eventually and I'll be sure to take requests when I do.

You seem to assume that the features you prefer would be preferable to everybody. Follow any theme thread and you'll notice that the things that some people think are great are incredibly annoying to others. Being that people are doing this stuff for free, they have the right to be the decision-makers on design choices.

Nick already stated that this theme will be specifically made for what HE wants in a theme.

Correct, and of course he has every right to do so. Anybody that's not interested in that condition has the right to not use the theme. They, however, don't have the right to complain.

I wanted to clarify I am not complaining, I was answering a question. Its a theme after all, no reason to get worked up. And I am perfectly content learning how to use Walter if I ever find the need to.

Hey Krahosk, not to rain on your opinion, but I think you missed the humor in my post and took it in your own direction. Like I said, sometimes we're just here emptying the shit from our heads...using the thread as the premise for whatever crosses our mind.

Yep, I understand. But, when you can provide the end user with unlimited options, you are able to cater to both groups (the groups being those who like crammed TCP and those who don't). That's all I'm trying to say!
So here starts my quest to theming... will start a new thread.

that's what i'm looking forward to.
...plus, it might cut down on complaints in the "themes" posts (or not )

If I am doing composing with instruments and samples and automation that requires a lot of tcp work as opposed to something like just tracking and mixing a band I always find that there are cases in which I need to just tweak something or try out an fx really quick, and over time having to open the mixer for each of these things adds up to a bit of a hassle.
For my needs, the basics are volume, mute, solo, and fx, and pan makes it easier as well if you can cram it in. Rado's basic TCP layout is almost great when sized down to two rows of buttons and the point where the volume turns into a knob, but there is a bit of a problem; by that point your track name only shows about two characters, so it becomes unusable for me.
One thing that you might consider losing to make room at that size are the folder state icons. As I learned recently, you can still create and remove folders just by dragging your selected dragged to the right point within the tcp, so you don't lose any functionality.
Just something maybe worth mentioning I guess, if it's going to be just yours.

Agree...I made a mockup for older rado build I plan to write in walter one of these days when I find the time.
http://img585.**************/img585/1...outsmockup.png
In the first one the track name should expand when dragged. The second one is for children tracks which contain midi that is sent to parent track with VSTi. I would minimize it to one row only so only the name and record status is visible.

I like the fact that the faders and meters are a static height and won't stretch Nick what fader scale are you designing this for? (hopefully default!)

Nothing special! Just a simple and comfy TCP without extra controls (volume, pan and width)...
