Default Aha moment with Superior snare sounds.

After mucking about with Superior Drummer for dozens of hours and being frustrated with the snare sounds I'm getting, I finally realized my mistake. I spent some time listening to the snare sounds that I like on recordings and they all seem to contain relatively little of the close mic sound and are more ambient.

EUREKA!

(This fact may be obvious to many of you, but it wasn't to me.)

Yes, it's a lot to tweak in there.

I reduced fade on snare a bit also(Avatar). It was ringing too much. Not to mention the bleed on mikes - plenty to experiment with. I'm nowhere done yet.

I routed the near ambient for all parts of kit to one out, then I put far ambient on all to one out, then I can tweak character and ambience while mixing.

Another thing might be to put those parameters on track header. Have a lot to learn about using Reaper to it's potential as well.
