Default MTC from different instance

Hi,

I'm currently trying a new setup. I have a new laptop, where I want to run some NDSP guitar plugin, within reaper (total virtualization ). We already have another laptop that runs background loops and stuff, serves click etc (i.e. time master).
From Laptop 1 I have connected a Motu 828mk2 Midi Out to my Behringer FCB1010 Midi input. That pedal can midi merge (tested with other devices, works).
From the 1010 Midi out I go to a Behringer UMC204HD, connected to Laptop 2 via USB (this also will be the guitar input for the plugin), so the 1010 should merge the MTC with my pedal commands for switching things (as said, this already works with the Motu 828 and a 11Rack amp)
On Laptop 1 I have enabled "Send clock" for the Motu. I see on the Motu as well as the Behringer 204 Midi outgoing and incoming, but the song speed doesn't change (also, when i press play, it says waiting for MTC).
What am I missing here?

Have you set up Reaper on pc1 with a sync track to send as MTC, or are you trying to use MIDI clock?

I have only set "Send clock to this device" on PC1... that not sufficient? (or better asked for testing, how do I set up a track for sending MTC?)

if you want to use MIDI clock, then it might be, if you set your 2nd computer to receive SPP, but in my experience Reaper doesn't slave well to MIDI clock.

if you want to use MTC then you will have to set up a sync source item in pc1 & send this to pc2 via a hardware MIDI output on it's track.

may be worth googling the difference between MTC & MIDI clock

I don't really need a that precise timing on PC2, it's only for delay times on the guitar plugin, no position stuff etc. needed

MTC works for me too, but MIDI clock / SPP doesn't

I think the original post mentions following tempo changes, so i think MIDI clock is what's required in that instance, unfortunately

right, so you need MIDI clock, not MTC.

set your receiving pc to SPP rather than MTC & see if it works for you.

ok, that's interesting, I never heard of SPP I've set PC2 to SPP now, and it starts playback when I start play on PC1 (uneccessarily, but I guess it doesn't matter) however, playback speed on PC2 still stays at 120 while PC1 has 180
