Default What affects rendering speed?

G'day guys,

I just cleaned up my audio drive (it was pretty full), and rendering is MUCH quicker (was at around 1-1.5, now is 30-40). HOWEVER, the project I'm working on doesn't have any plugins (besides a limiter), so I'm wondering which it's likely to be...?

I'm a happy camper, because I'm racing through this work

resampling modes can make HUGE difference if your media has different samplerate than the project is running at. or when rendering to different target samplerate than the project-samplerate ...

I don't think that would have been it in my case, but that's interesting to know

Actually all that matters (for resampling) is input and output ratesper item timestretch/pitch shift, and any varispeed stuff.. The project sample rate is effectively ignored when rendering..

So what WOULD slow down rendering, Justin? Full drive, or too many plugins, or something else?

I'd like to keep my rendering at super speed

Full hard drive will not slow down rendering. Plugins will slow down rendering almost exponentially.

If you mute the tracks not being rendered, it speeds up rendering quite a bit (you can alt-click the mute on the track you're rendering to mute all the other tracks.)

*if you have 'do not process muted tracks' checked in prefs

Plugin oversampling on export can also make a big difference. I use a lot of Voxengo plugins in Auto mode so on export it can take longer. The new plug Varisaturator can do 8x oversampling if you want so just that single plugin alone could slow things down quite a bit...
