Default Auto-punch recording without stopping?

Hi

I know there are recording modes for auto-punch selected items and time selection auto punch. However, what I want to do is start auto-punch in from a predetermined position without stopping until I hit the record button again.

Anyone knows if there is such a feature in reaper or how to do something similar in reaper?

You can use command markers. The command ID for "record" is "1013", you need to put "!" in front of it to make an action marker.

So just put a marker where you want to record then name it: !1013

Wow, thank you! I had read about smart markers from manual but never thought about utilizing that feature in my case.

just remember to remove the marker when you are done. One custom action I made is similar.

Punch In After Selected Item + PreRoll 4 to End

Custom: Punch In After Selected Item + PreRoll 4 to End
Item navigation: Move cursor to end of items
Xenakios/SWS: Store edit cursor position
Move edit cursor back one measure
Move edit cursor back one measure
Move edit cursor back one measure
Move edit cursor back one measure
Time selection: Set start point
Loop points: Set start point
Transport: Go to end of project
Move edit cursor forward one measure (no seek)
Move edit cursor forward one measure (no seek)
Move edit cursor forward one measure (no seek)
Move edit cursor forward one measure (no seek)
Move edit cursor forward one measure (no seek)

Move edit cursor forward one measure (no seek)
Move edit cursor forward one measure (no seek)
Move edit cursor forward one measure (no seek)
Move edit cursor forward one measure (no seek)
Move edit cursor forward one measure (no seek)
Time selection: Set end point
Loop points: Set end point
SWS: Toggle horizontal zoom to selected items or time selection
Xenakios/SWS: Recall edit cursor position
Time selection: Set start point
Go to start of loop
SWS: Set transport repeat state
Record: Set record mode to time selection auto-punch
Xenakios/SWS: Set selected tracks heights to B

You're welcome cjunekim, and Yeah, good suggestion Coachz, when you're done recording, best to either delete it or move it past the end of porject. It's very easy to create them so I just delete them.

Wow, heh heh, thats quite a custom action Coachz, I've got similar actions but I don't think I have anything quite that big.

The only caveat is action markers aren't sample accurate, meaning it could start a tiny bit late and/or not always in the exact same spot if running multiple takes. What I do is just slide the marker to the end of the project or similar if I plan on using it multiple times.

Thank you, this might work well enough for me. Although because of it not being sample accurate, it can become a mess with different starting points for every new recording.

I really miss a simple way to auto punch-in, and keep recording until I press Stop. Currently I use auto punch-in (time selection) and set the end point beyond the song end, but it has it's downsides.
