Default firewalling synthedit plugs - downside?

is there a downside to doing this? btw, what exactly are the differences in these options?

separate
dedicated
native only

embed bridged ui

buggy plugin compatibility mode

separate means all plugs go in A SINGLE process outside of reaper. dedicated means all plugs go IN THEIR OWN process outside of reaper (worse performance/better stability - this is required for bad synthedit plugins). both of these will prevent a bad plugin from crashing reaper. it also reduces the chance that reaper will run out of RAM on low-RAM systems (each process gets its own 2GB of address space/swap, regardless of how much RAM you have).

embed bridged UI stops the plugin GUI being in its own popup window, at (slight) risk of crashes.

buggy plugin compatibility mode turns on some options that lower performance and can introduce glitches during playback when looping, but stops a lot of plugs crashing. this is always turned on for some plugins with known problems (e.g. most IK Multimedia plugs crash with buffer sizes that aren't powers of 2, so this is on whether you like it or not for those).

going on a month now of having the synthedit plugins firewalled, and everything has been running awesome here. i can't remember any crashes over the last few weeks.

if you're having some occasional crashing and you tend to use a lot of free plugins, definitely do this.
