Default "Tracking" Level ( Range) Question

What is the range you practice tracking at (not mixing or mastering) ITB in Reaper?
Studio equipment is set to K 20 specifications.(just backgroud info)
Using the RME FF 800, and NI Kontakt program for instruments. I realize clipping is to be avoided and one should listen critically, however, a ball park range would be very clarifying at this time.
For example:
master and tracks are set to unity gain
select a sample/loop from Kontakt to record
play it on a keyboard
track meter will measure the level
adjust the incoming signal from the source (Kontakt)
So... what is the range (on the Reaper meter) to keep the signal within?(without clipping)...I am not addressing mixing or mastering at this time.
Thank you all in advance, I appreciate your feedback on this question.

Doesn't matter as long as it doesn't clip. Personally I would go not lower than say about -6dB peak (just to see the waveforms better than when recording at even lower levels).

It honestly doesn't matter, as long as the recording signal *never* clips. It clips, turn down the gain a bit, and rerecord.
If you're just tracking, you don't even need to mess with the faders in Reaper (or listen to it even), just make sure the little red box in the channel meter never lights up.

Technically, some AD Converters work "better" in certain ranges of operation, but these are typically cheap ADCs and probably not found in your equipment.
