I have actually been toying with the idea of moving exclusively to Ableton for this very reason. Well, that and I can never seem to get ReaComp to give me the sound I want and AutoTune doesn't work in Reaper and clips in Ableton make songwriting very easy, but the biggest reason is warp time. Ableton just makes it so easy. If I group all my drums, I can stretch them as a group so that everything stays in time. In Reaper, I always record another take because it's such a hassle to fix anything.

I'm starting to work on projects using current songs and building tracks to them, but I can't sync the mp3 song beat to the track.

Just voted on the issue tracker
I have a feeling that Cockos is not interested in elastic audio since it's the main feature and most popular in Ableton Live...but still hoping!

Well, it's an advanced feature.
Reaper has something that's usable regarding this, so they might not rush this FR. I'm hoping v5.

And maybe they could keep the audio engine light(the biggest advantage of Reaper in my opinion...)

Only reason I'm sticking with Logic ... While Reaper is much more resource-efficient than Logic, and I actually prefer Reaper over any other DAW.
If Reaper had Flex Time, I wouldn't hesitate and use it right away. Now it's just sitting in the dock, hasn't even been updated since 2010.

As for Logic's Flex Time, good one but I rarely use that as I get headache once I have to deal with audio in Logic.

it works really well in Live 8, but here it would be better to work inline as Flex.

210 votes of "I would use it" vs. 1 vote of "I wouldn't use it" isn't exactly a portrait of overwhelming support for something that's been discussed at various times here for probably 4+ years.
That is to say, if the vast majority of actual happy users aren't asking for it... maybe it doesn't deserve priority.
Anyway, here's a bump with Garageband which makes it really easy. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GwZq0cWbhQc

BTW, how many votes does it take for a FR to deserve some attention ?

Yes, we never had a single word from the dev team about this feature since years. Weird.

I don't know : there is a very old FR with several votes, but it is locked.
Hitting "reply" gives "you do not have permission to access this page. "
I was hoping Elastic audio to come in v2, then in v3... maybe in v5 ?

Oh, I actually didn't mean it that way. I meant "that's not exactly a whole lot of people voting for it" ... 210... over X number of years. Knowing how old that thread was I expected the count there to be a lot higher than that when I clicked the link to see it.
But no... I wasn't implying that the devs were ignoring it or anything like that. It just occurred to me that maybe most users maybe don't actually want it or don't need it... another possibility that can't be dismissed.
I just made it 211. I actually thought I'd voted there already.

I would use it all the time! I'm hoping that they have been developing this for many years and it's something soooo sophisticated and well engineered that we're just blown away once it's realesed.

I'm not an audio-programmer, but I belive fully functional elastic audio is a really sophisticated feature, needing a lot of work and skill to get right. Remember, the big DAWs have just had these features a few years, and that are after 10-15years of developing all the other stuff first.
One need to crab before one can walk.

Mmmh, yes, it must indeed be a really sophisticated feature, needing a lot of work, but it also has been requested since at least 4 years, which is quite a lot, and the dev team didn't really made any official reply ("no, we don't care", "yes, it will come, after v4 but before v6", "it is not a priority at all", "we have tried but it still don't work", etc).
Some words helping to know if such a major feature is being considered would be better than silence (at least for me).
I know it is a big work, and i can be patient, it is just that we have been patient for several years, and didn't hear quite a single word
The Issue tracker for this request is locked since 2 years, btw.
Considering how fast Reaper is being improved, i am a bit surprised how slow it is to get on this feature (while some feature are just requested one day, and implemented nearly the next day. Of course, not big FRs, but still).

That's half-true only.
Live was born 10 years ago, and had Elastic Audio from the start (just to name this one, because i know it well).
And Reaper seems sooo close to have Elastic audio working, as several related stuff is more or less here already (Rex, tempo map, dynamic splitting, etc)...

probably many many people would love this feature but over the years have lost hope or have used other programs....it is a shame since Reaper
would be able to make something truly game changing

Grrrr, Bitwig isn't even released and it already features Elastic audio & Warp Markers.

Reaper is at version 5, it has been requested quite a lot of times, and we never heard the Cockos opinion about this feature...

My number one wish for Reaper.
Especially Warp drag.
But do I need something like Bitwig to get it?

I just voted in favor of this feature request. Lack of elastic audio and warp markers is one of the main reasons I can't fully let Studio One v2 go.

Ask Justin Frankel... http://www.askjf.com/
Question: Any plans to add elastic audio to Reaper?
Reply: I.e. warp markers? Maybe someday.

Ok, folks
Elastic Time/Warp is here with v4.16
It's a tiny little improvement, but (a last for me) it gives me all the functionality I want regarding elastic audio.
So, the change is:
Quote:
+ Elastique: workaround for apparent quality bug when using very short items
|
And here's what you do:
( Sections with constant tempo is not affected -as before)
If you need to
a) Gradually change tempo affecting audio-items
b) Insert a loop/audio-item where there are gradual tempo-changes
then
a)
1) Split the audio into small pieces (8-notes seems often like a good choice)
2) Make sure the items is looped, group to taste, auto-crossfade items to taste (maybe mandatory)
3) Make your changes to the tempo
- Everything should now line up nicly, and play perfectly
for b)
I haven't tested, I think you'll need to insert the loop on steady tempo, do as above, and move it to the desired place.
Quantizing and groove quantizing should be doable, but I haven't tested.
Please tell me if it works for you
