simplest way to add an effect to only PART of a track.
I learned how to break up a track by clicking where you want to on the track and using S to split. And then I got it to where I can adjust volume on the split up sections. But now I would like to learn how to put an effect on spots. Not the whole track.
I know there is info out there in youtube land. I watch them sometimes. But I do better talking with someone cuz most of the time I fall asleep when watching the vids.
Kenny's voice is soooooo soothing. LOL.
We are brand new here. Thank you for helping!

Hello and welcome to these forums. You'll find many helpful people here and a lot of useful information. Make sure that you:
-----------------
For both volume levels and FX usage, the easiest thing to do is add Automation Envelopes to the track - one for the track Volume and one for the FX Bypass. Then add envelope points where you want:
One advantage: there is no need to split up the audio into sections.
Loads of details of Automation Envelopes are in the User Guide. And you may find it even better to use the FX's Wet parameter (which will allow you to fade the FX in and out) instead of its Bypass.

I haven’t tried darkstars method. I always use “split items at cursor” to delineate the sections that need envelopes or different effects. Once you have isolated the section(s) you want to add fx to, right click the section and hit “show fx for selected item” and add/remove whatever effects you want. This method works fine if it is just a few tracks/places that need to be changed - if you have a large number of changes like this, darkstars method may be faster.

Split the track as you are doing already and right click on the section you wish to add effects to. Then from the context menu select: Take->Show FX chain for active take (shift-E is a sort cut for me) Any effect you add here will only be applied to the sected part of the track.

Thanks for the tip, Darkstar, I didn't realise you could use automation for effects.

That's what I would do. Simply put the effect on the track and automate the wet parameter.

Thanks a lot, Alastair. I was clicking trim on a fx-less track so it only went down to "mute" but now I have added an fx, it works.
I also discovered this video by Kenny: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EWKp...&start_radio=1

THANK YOU ALL. I will likely try the easy route first, cuz I think I just need it in one small spot off the bat... But I gotta get my head around "envelopes" I guess.... LOL.
Thanks for the replies.
Is there a place on this site where people are sharing music together? I like to hear what people are doing out there and here differences and how someone is doing stuff. And of course just listen to the music. I feel like there is a lot of good music in the world that people make but we never hear it cuz it's not on the radio or pushed by some promoter. Or not the hottest tick tock thingy. LOL.
I don't know if anyone would like the music my band is making but it doesn't hurt to share and someone might.

Envelopes are super easy. Just watch a couple Kenny videos while you're eating your dinner and you'll be hooked

'Automation envelopes' sounds a bit involved; but you don't have to worry about separate lanes, automation items, or recording fader movements to use them. On the (default) 'trm' track button, left click to show the envelopes window, or right click to more directly select and display 'envelope parameters'. The one you're looking for is 'bypass' in this case. The bypass envelope will now show in the track.
Have the bypass envelope selected (the line is bold) and shift-click on either side of the item section you want to change, to insert two envelope points - the item doesn't have to be split at all. Dragging the envelope segment (or the first point) between the points allows you to enable or disable bypass on your selected Vst. [edit] You'll notice that the Vst button on the track control panel greys out when the envelope bypasses it.
It's easy enough to create a custom action to insert two envelope points either edge of a time selection, which speeds up this method.
Automation items are useful for repeated instances of envelope fades, etc.
