Track Wiring Diagram
Hello folks,
so I'm checking this new feature,
without any zoom control it's kind of unusable,
also it lacks any proper coloring to make it quickly readable/understandable,
it's a great thing I would totally use, but needs to be done bit different in my opinion,
I recommend taking as a reference "FlowGraph" in CryEngine of how such thing can be done a bit better:

It is useless right now, expect it to be superb in v8

I saw in another thread that the wiring diagram flow goes from right to left - is that right? What is the motivation for that, is there another environment that uses that convention?

The workflow/layout seems strange. I'd expect something like:
1. Tracks to the left from top to bototm
2. Busses/folders/sends in the middle
3. Outputs on the right
Zooming would be key too.
I'm honestly not sure it adds a ton of value as-is, as the amount of scrolling required on even modestly sized projects makes understanding the track wiring more difficult than just sussing it out elsewhere. I feel like there's a very specific use-case or workflow this was designed for, but one that just isn't applicable to most users.

Yes, that's right. And no, there's no other environment that uses that convention. It is unusable this way. A number of us have pointed this out from the very first time it got added, but nothing changed...

damn that's a real shame, it is not as if there aren't enough idiosyncratic (ie not very good) aspects of the usabiiity now. I am licensed through to v7 but I was really hoping v6 would deliver some tidying up of stuff that is incredibly annoying, not add even more poorly thought out functions. Hopefully there will be enough to offset the silly stuff

To me, not having a spaghetti diagram is not annoying at all
Being forced to use it would be annoying. But I don't suppose this is going to happen.

to me having someone make a poor version of something as yet another example of opportunity cost failure is really annoying but, you know, lets not be sophisticated

Of course anything is the less annoying the better and thought fully it is done .

I also agree that the current state is not something that will help me understand the flow of audio but I also must say that Im not a fan of wiring IN GENERAL so you guys would need to convince me as to why it could be helpful?

I think the general consensus and one I agree with is that if it IS going to be an included feature, let's do it right. This isn't done right and needs a rethink based off of some really good feedback from users that has already been provided.

^^^
With all due respect to the devs, something this incomplete and undercooked doesn't belong in an RC for a major release.

Agree
At least add the zoom and panning
Otherwise better to remove it. Installer is close to 13 MB already

Does anyone know if are there plans to have a wiring diagram for within the track, like an fx rack?
I'm not sure when I would use the current wiring view but I would use a native wired fx rack all the time.

Thanks a lot, I will. I am a bit wary of relying on scripts that can potentially break in future updates though but his stuff looks great

I wouldn't worry too much. They avoid breaking compatibility as much as possible. The new track architecture broke some stuff, but that's the first time I've seen a major overhaul like that and it significantly improved performance.

It really seems that some VSTs do not implement Reaper plugins properly, and/or Reaper has problems or is too complicated.
Ex. Melodyne, I want to "pass through" the input 1/2 to output 1/2 without Melodyne processing. But it processes it, every time. ReaEQ does not have the same behavior. Second, I want to duplicate the output of 1/2 from Melodyne to 3/4, it does not.
Melda, similar, I want to pass audio to Melda plug side channel, it doesn't consistently work. Also, when going back out, again, trying to duplicate channels does not work.
Sorry this is not a precise bug report, I guess I'm working up to that. The promise of Reaper routing is great, the delivery is challenging. The interface provides no 'guards', you can pretty much click "anything to anything" but it quietly won't work, or work as expected.
Anyone with advanced info I'd love to see it. I've seen all the "straightforward" tutorials, but man, when you want to sidechain more than one stereo pair, you're on your own. So I stopped doing that. If you want to replicated output channels on 3rd party plugs, YMMV, so I stopped that. What can I do exactly, TBD.

So I don't leave this hanging, I corrected by removing all the plugs and rebuilding the channel.
I was able to wire output 1/2 (post FX) to other channels (3/4, 5/6, etc). Then, down the line use them as sidechains.
I created a chain with:
Melodyne > 1/2 > Granular > Gate > OP 1/2
v
3/4 > SC > Gate
So that in one FX chain I could gate the grains on the input voice.
I'm not sure if there were routing issues I caused (I have been confounded by routing loops more than once) or if FX chain reconstruction avoided a bug.
Proceeding.
