Have Reaper not move cursor when clicking in free space (Main Window)
Hello -
Here is what I wrote in the Feature Request section - please let me know what you think of it. It's my first FR...

(Link to Feature Request!) VOTE HERE
Is it possible to have Reaper not move the cursor/selection/tool line every time I click in the main window?
We have this option now in the Midi editor (to not move cursor when clicking in free space) it seems like it would be nice to have it in main window too, as an option please. From the feedback I've already gotten on this, at the forums,
"this should be a pretty simple FR to implement. And would fit nicely with the other edit cursor movement options."
http://forum.cockos.com/showthread.php?t=63383
Maybe we could have the cursor/line only move when clicking within the timeline itself - up in that area.
Thank you!
*Apologies if I did this wrong...it's my first FR*

I think it'll be easy enough to implement, considering we have it in the MIDI area already. Hopefully we'll see it....
That's the only real headache I have now, migrating from another DAW....
I'm on Reaper for life!

this is weird since you come from sonar and sonar has really great mouse controling in the midi editor...(not to mention the Mouse customization)...
so I assume that you will get headache from this as well..

Naw, I'm optimistic. I've been impressed beyond belief (i.e. floored) by how powerful and customizable Reaper is I have faith in 'em.

Is there a vote at my FR link, or do I have to do something?
Sorry if that's a silly question -
Ben

I can see how this could be useful to some but please make this optional if implemented. I personally like being able to click anywhere to move the play head.

Excellent! Voted on! I hate this also.
But to make it optional this should be implemented as an box in preferences...
'Move edit cursor when clicking empty arrange view window'
...along with all the other 'Move edit cursor blah-blah-blah's that I have unticked in the options! =)

Yes, another + 1 for this also. Move edit cursor only from timeline. Voted
P.S. Off topic, if the snapping FR request here was implemented, then you would no longer need to click on an item (which selects the item) to get the edit cursor to snap to items edges, we could just click on the timeline, and it would snap.

Let's not confuse the playback cursor ("play head") with edit cursor
which is currently also a starting position for the playback cursor.
The option to not move the playback cursor already exists under
preferences > playback > seek playback when clicked... The option
to not move the edit cursor however is requested in this FR.
(I'm sure you are aware of this Dannii, but some people reading
this thread could get confused)

Hello, this is my first post!
I'm new to reaper, these past days I'm trying to get to know it, and one of the things I didn't manage to find was this.
Eric, the "seek playback when clicked..." options only work when the transport is rolling, but when the playhead is stopped, clicking anywhere in the arrange will move the playhead to that point, no matter if those options are selected or not.
I have to admit that those options as they are right now don't make much sense to me. Let me explain. Let's say we hit play to listen to the take; most of the time when we click in another part of the arrange window, while transport is rolling, we do it to move the playhead to that point and listen to something in that part of the arrange, right? So, while having the option to avoid moving the playhead when clicking on items makes perfectly sense, as we might need to move an item just before the playhead passes from there, to listen how it sounds in its new position, it doesn't make much sense to have that same behavior when clicking in the empty space, because of what I said before, so this, to me is quite a useless option. A much more useful option, would be to have the playhead not move when clicking on the arrange, WHILE IN STOP MODE. This way, we could, for example, delete a portion at the end of an item without moving the playhead, and start the playback at the start of the item, or at the start of the porject, or wherever we left the playhead; delete and play, not delete, scroll back, click to the point where the playhead was and play, much faster right?
By the way, I think that playhead and edit cursor should have much more options than they do right now. Their behavior is really important, and we should have the possibility to adapt it to all the different situations we face (recording, editing, mixing), which needs them to behave in a different way every time. An example would be a toggle button to link and unlink the playhead and the edit cursor, like it is in pro tools.
EDIT: HAHAHA, in like one hour I posted 2 questions but finally found the answer by myself. So, it seems like the mouse modifiers are the key to a lot of stuff I'm asking. So, to disable the playhead repositioning when clicking in the arrange we go to OPTIONS\PREFERENCES\EDITING BEHAVIOR\MOUSE MODIFIERS\Context: Track --> Left click double click on Default aciton and select "deselct all items".
