REAPRISE Cometh !!
10/22/21 - Update: ReaPrise lives!
I plan to explain largely w/ pics, but before we get started,
let me say a couple things:
When I started this theme I wanted something more than flat because flat started
trending and still is 2 years later. Then we got the UI scaling after I
already had the format and design pretty much in the box. Now with a flat theme,
scaling is a fairly easy thing; no shadows or highlights or emboss or deboss, etc.
But scaling this would be a BIG ask. It would be starting from square 1 and I
will NOT do that. However, I did completely overhaul the entire theme's
buttons / controls / toolbar icons, etc. with all Google Material Stuff which
can be found here:
https://fonts.google.com/icons
This will be a huge resource to anyone wanting to muck with that. <laughs
As for other mods: I will consider any that aren't super time consuming, as
long as they would improve the appearance or useability, or add options for
workflow; but I cannot promise anything.
Now then, Install instructions, then the file.
1. Download the package. (Standard Zip)
This contains the .ReaperThemeZip, a splash screen, a readme, and a 'Fonts' folder.
2. Unzip the package.
3. Place the contents of the 'Fonts' folder into your system fonts folder.
All fonts are free online and unaltered; SAFE.
4. Import the .ReaperThemeZip your favorite way, there's 4 ways at least. lol.
No one needs these
instructions, right?
You MUST install the fonts....again...you MUST install the fonts.
(Or else the theme will look horrible.)
Update 10/25/21:
-Added Zippyshare link for anonymous DL
-fixed some tb icons
-added more tb icons
-couple small graphical fixes
-added new layout:
'Flagship (Wide FX)'
ReaPrise v1.1 Download:
https://drive.google.com/file/d/1pgQ...w?usp=drivesdk
-or-
https://www19.zippyshare.com/v/eal7Mx7t/file.html
Please let me know if anyone has any trouble with downloading
or files, or bugs, etc....I am pretty OCD so any nitpicky stuff here is a result of a workaround or hack or the limitations of theming most likely.
neversystems@gmail.com or PM me.
There are a couple things to note in this theme that are fairly unique;
A couple layouts have a channel count display.
Support for both indented and non-indented folder workflows...
via stepped, inline, and numbered folder status display.
Of course! There are separate sendlist and reverse versions of all TCP panels.
Yes, lol, the pan labels are capitalized....there was a guy who was so peeved by
the lowercase 'center' that he edited REAPER.exe's hex code!!
Lots of 'track_selected' stuff here....I thought I would be the first to
do a 'Pop-Out' style space-saving MCP layout but I took too long..there's a couple now...good on them.
I am surprised it took this long...the functionality isn't new, it
has been there since WT dropped his snapshot of Imperial v5 at least.
Fontswitching - When selected, the track's label and index turn bold...could easily
be italic instead...just go into the tweaker and change any bold font to italic.
Well, long winded as ever...
Just download it.
ReaPrise v1.1 Download:
https://drive.google.com/file/d/1pgQ...w?usp=drivesdk
-or-
https://www19.zippyshare.com/v/eal7Mx7t/file.html
Add: Since I did not include documentation with the theme itself and
all defaults have inline (not indented) folder indication, I wanted to demonstrate
that there there are also indentation - capable layouts.
Below are caps of v6 default folder indenting action and ReaPrise theme action.
Someone is going to say well, there should be no need for folders that deep --
I said the same thing, but I figured if there are, at least the theme don't break.
I also wanted to prevent indenting on one track from affecting other tracks.
Anyways, sorry for the wait, but it's now a promise kept.
DL, enjoy.

That's a mighty nice theme you have made there. Not too 3d but a little is ok in my book. With nice clear buttons that 'illuminate' when active! I like it very much.
I like things minimalistic. Plain not boring. Uncluttered and easy to see what's active without looking garish. Compact but readable. Can't wait to try it out!

Thank you. Will look forward to your thoughts on updates. Yes, I meant 2d not
3d..I guess....maybe not...no......dumb moment. I guess it is somewhat 3d...
just the highlights and shadows, lighting, etc. I am not an artist and do
not have any training in that respect, so I hope if I do something hideous and
out of keeping with the physics or style, people will call me on it.
I hope others will like it, I know the majority of folks here enjoy the flat themes.
Also my graphical skills are not amazing. I will never compete with the White Ties
and Blankfiles and Jrengs, however, I am inspired by their work and my hope
is to build my skills in graphic design and theming in general,
so that maybe eventually I can make something amazing.

It's a great combination that looks simple and uncluttered. That's my goal, I want something that has the important stuff to hand with ability to reach the stuff rarely used. Most themes try to add too much jazz to make it look smart and stand out more, but personally I prefer the idea that less is more, if done right
You may not be a graphic designer, but you've done an amazing job with your selection of colours and shapes for this theme! Hope you can finish it soon

Thank you all for the kind words I am thrilled there is positive feedback already.
Pending a viable TCP panel, ENV control panel, and Master, I will release a build to test.
This theme will be free, no donations needed to download.

Amazing! Can't thank you enough! As a prospective new reaper customer, I've been searching for something a bit more plain with better overall graphics. Between this and supreme, I'll be set for a treat

Nice! The only thing I'd ask for is a HiDPI version (or at least 2x size/resolution images so that it would be possible for someone else to make it into a HiDPI theme).

I like this a lot.
have one issue and one question:
Issue - I prefer the fader with white center stripe, but it seems less crisp visually than the rest of the elements.
Question - will you make the color rings around the Pan and Width knobs sweepable or will they remain as static rings shown in the screenshots?
It works either way, but making them sweepable indicators would be very useful.
Again, I really like what you've done here and look forward to seeing the TCP.

Lucas, how have you been? Thank you for the like, it's great to get good
feedback from someone who has done so much work here. Yes, on the faders, the analog
console style fader is a bit less sharp, it is actually a composite. It is a real
photo of a fader laid on top of the alternate fader shown in the screencap.
The faders and knobs, like pretty much everything else, are decent placeholders.
I actually did so much tweaking in knobman to get the knobs looking good, I did
one and rendered it different colors, and forgot to add rotation and mask to make the dials
sweep, I obviously meant to, lol, so that will be forthcoming.
How about a darker version of the synthetic fader thumb:

Thank you all for the likes. Update for tonight is a new transport.
I think I like it for the default so far. However, there are 4 others so...
there maybe ten before it's over and only 3 or so will make the cut.

For my two bobs worth:
I actually preferred the faders with the coloured center-line, maybe have the both as an option in the mixer layouts?
You have a very nice theme here that would be very easy to spend many hours in front of. Hell just on what I have seen so far, I'd even pay some bucks for it!
The new transport bar is really slick, very neat and just works.
As for the MCP layout I am in preference for the one shown in the full size photos with and without icons.
Having the outer rings that moved with the position of the knob would be the icing on the cake - you'd have all my money then

That definitely works.
I do prefer the textured fader, though.
I looked at it a bit today and found what is causing the issue is the little border around the fader's center.
A subtle change fixed the issue for me.
Could use some fine tuning, but here's an example:

One further request, could you make the transport buttons coloured when active. There's a theme that has this and it's much clearer to see their status. I don't recall the theme at present but think it's a Janine theme maybe.

That's a good idea, nothing to bright that would burn your eyes out. I currently use the REA Evolution theme a lot, which has backlighted transport buttons.

It might be this theme -
https://stash.reaper.fm/theme/2117/A...ReaperThemeZip
Not sure. Can't check at moment. But the transport buttons are a nice colour when lit. Pause is yellow, play is blue and record is red. Easily distinguishable.
It wouldn't matter to me too much as I know how to change the transport buttons to be as I want. But just a suggestion.

Just checked the evolution theme you mentioned, very nice! Transport buttons are great too. The backlighting defeat is much better than the theme I mentioned.

I do like the evolution theme, it is my main theme I use. It has it's quirks and differences to some others. My only issue with it has nothing to do with the theme itself, as I only have (currently) a 1080P monitor, I don't have a lot of real-estate in way of screen size.
I did like some of the Pro Tool'ish themes, but after using them for a long time, they get a bit bright for me and end up hurting the eyesockets.
I am waiting with baited breath for this one to be released so I can check it out, it looks really usable, nice colour scheme, not to bright or to dark - just right.
I like the light grey colour of the faders and the smooth look (not textured). Each to there own though and ultimately the decision will be the creators. Either way it is going to be a great theme.

Thanks for the input. Thats plus 2 for no textured faders. Gotcha. Yea this theme will be perfect for your 1080p. I am creating it on a 1080p TV.

Wow thanks...thats a huge compliment but I love your stuff and I think design is relative...I was especially happy that you put albert's abandoned (very first Solaris) design into play to make Gold.
So you like the textured faders now....I see what you did, you cleaned them up and put black around the center line to define the notch....supreme work. I am going to cut one out and use it
for the theme until we try some other stuff or until we get more input. Thanks alot.

Thanks so much! It very flattering coming from you, you and WT and Pyer and some of the others here like Lucas
are the guys that inspired me to start theming and with every theme you make, although it seems impossible for
you to get better, I see you progressing and making themes that consistently get
more and more amazing, and those themes inspire me to do better and get to the
point some day where maybe I can make things that amaze. Those themes like
your new ILogic and the Imperials And AlbertXXX's newest PT Gold and Pyer's new API v5
are the themes that I keep in mind when I have been sitting at the computer
for hours, having spent the whole evening WALTERing and Photoshopping and Knobmanning.
Best,
Never

Thank you very much, so thats +2 now for the Luca textured meters and
+1 for the smooth faders. (There was one vote changed.)
Azimuth, cool name....the great thing about using a DAW like REAPER

Hi never
Well out of those two transport graphics, I do like the first very much, but the second is definitely more visible at a glance, so I would have to choose that
Thanks for giving us a choice
Brilliant work!
Also, I think that the textured faders are the best looking.

At last!
At last, you've created a thread here )
The theme looks good.
I like it when a theme is well-balanced:
informative and compact.
When all the needed tools (e.g. buttons, controls, numbers (values)) are shown,
everything is readable (just enough contrast, neither too high nor too low),
the selected elements draw a bit more attention, but not "crying out loud" bright,
and you get to see many tracks at once
and concentrate on music (or whatever it is you're doing in a DAW) easily
(not being distracted).
So...
When the whole button is lit you can notice it with a corner of your eye.
And when only a dot-spot not even in the center of a button is lit and you have to distinguish the color of the dot (because there's more to it than just lit-unlit) it's a different story. You have to look, maybe readjust your eyes... It's distracting. I'm pro "the whole button lit" style. Except, maybe, for the Transport buttons. Not a dot either, but a pictogram lit-unlit should be enough.
Quote:

Great. It adds to readability (the white horizontal line is what matters if, at some point, there will be a scale beside it).
And if the vertical white (here) line was only below the fader thumb (and maybe seen through the lower part (half) of it up until the horizontal line), it would add to readability, too.
"From afar" a bunch of faders would look like some graphic EQ bands with an accented top. And graphic EQ bands are readable even although they usually don't have an accented top.
Considering the "Master Send Receive" button
If the next colors don't match:
Master and Mute,
Send and Solo,
Receive and Record (Record Arm),
and if the whole buttons Mute, Solo and Record Arm get lit
and only the letters M, S and R for Master, Send and Receive get lit,
then there'll be no need for corresponding dot-spots either.
About this screen shot:
Track number (4) is harder to read, and "Attack... Release..." on track 6 — almost unreadable.
Is it possible to show value on sends not only graphically but in numbers as well?
Shouldn't the pan... circles (which are really bright) be "lit" only up to (or down to) the pointers?
P.S. If you really like that font ("is it an S or a 5?"),
well, I guess I'll have to learn to live with that )

The font and the rate circle color is a bit too bright for me,
and I'm more used to this buttons order:
Start Stop Play Pause End Record Cycle (Start means "Back to Start").
Both (the color and the order) can be relatively easily changed in rtconfig file, right?
(I guess I'll end up with two Cycle buttons. Why not?)

Suggestions about TCP, if I may
I find extremely useful a one-row layout with almost everything:
track name line,
automation,
routing,
record arm,
input monitoring,
FX and
FX enable (probably combined),
mute,
solo buttons,
track color and
track number (probably combined) area.
Volume and pan — in the second row so I don't change their values by accident.
And input — in the second row as well. Or even in the third one.
And the width of a track panel depends basically on how many symbols do you need for a track name.

I don't know why the meters' colors should be different depending on whether the track is record armed or not.
How will I know if the signal is too hot if the meters are already orange or red... or blue, out of the blue ) What's the point of color differentiation then? I find green-yellow(orange)-red scheme suitable for recording as well.
What I'm saying is I don't see the need to make special colors for record armed tracks meters.
And now a completely different issue )
Folder Parent, Child, Last (track) — how are these for short:
FP, FC, FL?

The second is nice.
As for the transport font|colour|brightness - another user commented it is to bright. I really feel sorry for anyone making themes, because it would be near impossible to make something 'everyone' likes, or majority like. Everyone will have their own likes/dislikes. I actually really like your transport, as it stands out and is easy to read (not all of us are young whipper snappers with great eyesight!). Plus I do a lot of editing and automating where I need to find time points easily, so having a nice easy to see transport readout is a definite bonus for me.
As for the 1080p, that is great. I will be soon getting a 4K tv to use as a monitor, to get the higher resolution. But until then...

Personally, I prefer it as is. Is this easily editable in the ini file?
