Default Why is Reaper not playing my MIDI files?

I'm continuing to have what I consider to be very "basic" problems with REAPER. The current issue I'm having is that after importing a MIDI file, it is not playing any sound. I can see the notes on the display, and the indicator is showing sound waves, but...no sound.

Please assist.

Thank you
D

Have you inserted an instrument (e.g. ReaSynth) in the FX chain .... MIDI are just a series of notes and events, they need to be played thru an instrument.

Thanks for that. No I haven't. I suspected that MAY have been the issue, but had no idea how to tackle it. I'll check out FX chain. Thanks again for the response. D

The good news is that there is a ton of VSTi and VSti3 instruments out there to choose from, including some really excellent ones that are completley free.

There is a thread titled "GOING ALL FREEWARE, WELL MOSTLY..." on here that will give you some pointers, but there are also sites like the bedroom producers blog and of course KVR

Click track FX button, then select instruments on left panel. Double-click on ReaSynth in main panel.

Like ivan says, there's a squillion free VST instruments that you can download and play around with.

You have to check the MIDI note channels as they are the same as vsti. In MIDI go to "edit window", click right and menu pops up, then select "note channel".

Or you could try the command "insert virtual instrument on track" and insert the guitar pro plugin on a track. Then you can drag the MIDI into this new track.

I hope it helps!
