Default ReWire status?

Has there been any advancement on the incorporation of ReWire? The last I remember, Propellerheads had not yet provided the license.

That's so lame. That they haven't released the rewire technology for free use makes no sense to me. I don't understand what they win by not letting it flourish in the wild.

DMI freewire :
http://www.smartelectronix.com/~dmi/effects.html
a quite old plugin making your host rewired.
Not as good as a home-baked native handling of transport info & midi data (a midi -rearoute kinda thing), but maybe that it can do what you're after ?
I downloaded it ages ago, and never really found a use to it, so i don't really know if it works or not
