Default Guitar to notation software?

Hi. I have a bud who is a singer/songwriter (primarily acoustic guitar) who asked me if I knew of any software which would allow him to play a note on his guitar (audio format file), and then have it get written down as a note in a format he can read (txt. or tab). He's not so much of a guitarist, so it's not easy for him to remember melodies or to write a guitar chord progression for a vocal melody line.

I found the following application ("GuitarMaster 2.0") which looks good:

http://www.guitarmaster.co.uk/

Anyone have any experience with the program? I tried the demo, and it seems to be OK. Or does anyone know of anything else they could suggest that would work better, for not too much money?

Thanks!

hm, dunno this program.

but reatune can, in limits, do the conversion of audio to midi data; then justload the midi file in a free notation app like tuxguitar or musescore.

i fiddled around with this a bit some time ago; it only works for quite basic stuff (notes have to be well seperated etc.). not that one could really play a guitar solo and then have the equivalent midi file, unfortunately..

The best note recognition software I know is melodyne. And soon it will be released the new version which is polyphonic.

If money is no object, have a look at an Axon 100 mkII or Axon 50.

The notes played on the guitar get converted to midi notes.

I've used it with GuitarPro5.
What's nice is that it knows also what string I'm playing.

Cost is an issue for my bud, so I'll probably just have him try out the GuitarMaster thing and see if that works for him.

Thanks.
