Default "Cannot open a2jmidid midi port" error at startup

Hi all,
on the newest version (I just updated today), I'm getting this error message at startup. (running with Jack on linux Ubuntu Studio, 32-bit)
When I go into preferences and check the midi connections, I can see the a2jmidi port, and when I select and activate it, I get the same error message again. Audio works fine (ie playing keyboard embedded in synth GUI with mouse) but my midi controllers aren't showing up anywhere.
I also tried running Jack without a2jmidid, but I get the same error message.

Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance!

I'm on Win so can't say anything about Reaper and Linux but just an idea what could be a possible cause for above error message:

There are two places in Reaper to assign MIDI controllers:

1. Preferences -> MIDI Devices

2. Preferences -> Control Surfaces

make sure that the same MIDI devices (ports) aren't assigned to both at once, otherwise it would give this "Cannot open...MIDI port" error.

Hi nofish,
thank you for your help. I checked the midi settings and all are correct. My thinking is that perhaps I should do a re-install. Is that possible? I suppose I'll have to search out my purchase key...
