Take colors: How to set a specific color cycle?
Right now when I am recording multiple takes, they are automatically assigned random colors. Is there a way to tell Reaper to cycle through say 16 specific colors and in a particular order?
Thanks!

Since there are no replies, is it safe to assume that this cannot be done at the moment?

If you've installed the sws extensions you can set track, item and take colors in different manners
you will find the settings/optionsand actions in the action list or in the context's color (right click on tracks and items)
you can set a color gradient and some custom colors
sws can color tracks by the name or function (parent child asf.)

I do have SWS but I can't seem to find an option for cycling through specific take colors. I want to be able to be sure that every 1st take is say "red", then "orange", "yellow", etc. Then maybe repeat after a while.
As of right now, each new take gets a random color. I can only find an option to color them all one specific color as they are created, or color them randomly. I need them to be different so my vocalist can more easily pick out takes because using random sometimes creates 3 or 4 takes right under each other that are similar in color and it's hard for her to differentiate between them when trying to discuss comping options with me.

YOu could use sws auto coloring to make this happen. Just go to the extensions menu, choose auto color and create some presets with specific colors and names. You only need a short name which can be added at the end of the track. Maybe #1 or __ or --. Only thing to do is create your new track and add the short codes to color it like in your preset.

Yes, is that not just track specific though? I'm talking about the coloration of each "take lane" within one track. I already do auto-coloring on each track dependent on instrument, but when I have vocal tracks, my main track turns green, and then each added "take lane" (like when you record over the same part over and over so you can do comping) just randomly changes to whatever color it wants, and that's not what I'm wanting at all.

Not a direct answer to your question but do you have 'Options -> Take lane behaviour -> Display empty take lanes' enabled ?
If not, I'd suggest trying as it avoids the imo weird lane splitting situation when you record over takes and gives each recording pass its own lane so you know exactly which take comes from which recording pass.
Example with this option off:
same with this option on:
(sorry if it's old news to you or doesn't help the problem...)

Sorry, I misunderstood you. Have no idea how to get into the random coloring.

I do, but alas, it really doesn't seem to help my issue of wanting to be able to customize what order the colors are chosen upon the creation of a new take.

Just wanted to re-ask this question since I never really found a way around this issue which is still causing some issues to this day. I personally don't mind the randomized colorization of take lanes if it's just me who's recording and editing, but when I have clients and suddenly a few of their takes have colors that are only a few shades away from each other, it continues to cause hiccups in our editing process.

Trying to find the same answer. Reaper needs to hire a designer or two not just coders . Design not in the sense to makes things look pretty , but also logic to enhance the user experience.
