Default Link Track Volume/Pan to Midi?

I just read about Link track volume/pan to midi, and I'm wondering what exactly is the difference if any to normal audio track volume/pan.

I use only midi (no audio clips), but only in conjunction with VST's (so nothing out of the box). I have a midi controller/keyboard as well but use it via USB.

Is there any benefit to linking track volume/pan to midi in my case? What would it be if it did have a benefit?
Thanks

It only makes sense if you want to use CC7 and CC10 to control volume and pan on the MIDI side. Because of the MIDI restrictions you'll want to do that only if nothing else is feasible (eg mix a multichannel MIDI device with only a single stereo audio output). In most cases it is much more comfortable to mix on the audio side.
