Default Fade Editor in latest Pre needs testing

Calling all users of fade editors in other DAWs and those who are interested in putting a good fade editor to use in their workflows.

Come and test the latest 4.27 Prerelease.

Go to the Pre-Release forum and grab the release. Make a portable installation if you do not wish to change your current Reaper installation.

Why ? Because the developers need feedback from experienced and inexperienced fade editor users alike, and there aren't enough of the experienced ones showing up yet, such as many of the folks who were asking for a good crossfade/fade editor.

Come and test the fade editor now. Help to make it good.

Hey

Let me chime in. Ive teste the current state of the new crossfade editor and I can say that initially the basic functionality is really nice/responsive. It really helps when operating with lots of cut regions which dont have the same start point.

Here are some of my results so far.But there are a few quirks that need to be resolved:

- the fade movement/behaviour is still very glitchy and sometimes unpredictable results can occur

- the fader responsiveness (centre,length,..) is not very smooth, though it can be improved by lowering the fader range to 0.2 or 0.1 seconds or by holding cmd key for greater precision.

- By my opinion the fade area wich responds to the opening of the editor shoul be bigger. the current small area isnt very comfortable to double click.

the only addition i really miss is the scalable curvature of the fades like in Nuendo or Samplitude, because the current state with preset like curves isnt always very convenient. I frequently come to a situation where i need a different curvature. It can be achieved with take volume but its not so elegant.

Also it would be nice if we had a closeup of the fade area like in Pro tools fad editor when using on a single crossfade for more detailed work

There were some complaint about the looks of the editor, however i care more about the usability than eye candy for such tools.

Regards J

it is better than nothing for sure so I'm thankful for it..

at the sametime, the ones in Sampli and Sequia [for me] set the standard.. don't know the PT one

being able to shape the curve rather than rely on premade curves is very handy...

it seems to work smoothly here but have not tried it with a zillion fades... perhaps the 'glitchiness' reported happens more when the system gets more loaded?

just downloaded and looking at 4.27pre16a, for the fade editor in particular.
seems unnecessarily clunky. i'd hope we'd be moving towards a more intuitive
graphical environment for the window. wouldn't it be a lot more intuitive to
simply show the crossfade with bezier hotpoints at the start, mid, and end
of each side? (obviously, some options would have to remain as checkboxes.)
i'd be VERY slow to adopt it for use in this form.

thanks,
