Default Undo: options & granularity

I was hoping Reaper 4 might have more granularity in what does & does not get kept in the Undo queue.

I see in fact there have been some changes to undo (or were those late additions to 3 that I missed?)

But I sometimes find myself losing changes of a more global or environmental nature -- eg quantize and other record settings, track layout or visibility, etc -- when I undo actual *edits* to the project that were made before I made those changes (often edits that led me to make those 'system' changes in the first place, which I think lose by undoing those very edits.)

Lots of issues there, I know......

A rather big subject.

The undo system undoes a little section of recorded automation at a time.

Please raise an extremity(any) if you feel like checking how far you''ve come with each undo action in undoing an automation pass ?

It's one of the reasons I'm suggesting an undo system for actual recorded(in the request, commited) automation in the Modern Automation request(see link below).

The way it is now, I couldn't mix a 30 second commercial if I had to undo any automation passes in it. I'd be wasting my time making envelope visible and checking if my sodding undo action took me back far enough.

It is. I just hope it's not so big that it never gets addressed, even if it's only piecemeal and over time.

Would be so nice to be able to optionally completely exclude things like FX chain window closings from getting picked up by undo. Just that alone would be a big improvement in undo-related usability.

The way this woks now is, if you're undoing a previous state, and there are 'Close FX Chain Config' events, the chain windows open, blocking the view, which means they either have to be manually moved OR (and this is what sucks) they need to be closed, which then creates new undo points, and so redoing forward means selecting alternate undo paths.

Not fun. Very frustrating.
