Default 2 questions: multipla takes and metering

Hi all

lookin for some doubt shootin

1- MULTIPLE TAKES: when recording multiple takes (if I previously cut TAKE1 f.e. in several parts) the new takes basically gets cutted same as TAKE1
even if TAKE2 sounds great as it is.
know how to disable this? to leave the new take intact?

2- METERING: mind explainin me why I see different meterings ev-where?
in my preamp the meter lites up to -6dB while in Reap it goes up to -2/3dB
even when I render the master mix and the master meter shows an high peak of -3dB during playback, when I render the whole song (with the online render) the render meter shows an high peak of -5dB
Is there a way to level them?

1. Right click on the item and select "Take -> Explode all takes to new tracks" or "Take -> Explode all takes (in place)". In the latter case you have to turn on FIPM (Free Item Positioning Mode) by choosing "Track -> Free item positioning" from the main menu. Also you might have to increase the track height to see all items representing the former takes then.

2. Sorry, but I haven't done such analysis. Maybe someone else chimes in.

thanks for input

maybe I didn't get your answer right

my "issue" is that..okok..picture this

I already rec'd 2 takes...but none of them was perfect...so I cut them and mixed 'em up with the better parts.

now I need to rec another take

hit rec...and go for it.

but as soon as I play STOP .. the 3rd take is splitted in the same points I used for Take 1 and Take 2 even tho' it sounds great overall.

I want to avoid this arbitrary splitting with new takes. I don't actually need to explode them in new tracks..it will clutter my screen view fo' sure

supa thanks

Go to Prefs/VU meters and set "maximum value" to suit.

This is the way it works, and currently there's no way around it except to in some way "disconnecting" Take 3 from the other two (either exploding, or crop to take 3, or ...) and then gluing Take 3 together again.

This has been complained about no end... maybe in version 4...

Did you try to explode the takes, discard everything after the split and drag the right edge of the item holding the third take to the right?
