Compatible Amp Simulators for Reaper (i.e. Overloud, Amplitube4, Positive Grid)

Hi All,

Searched but could not find an updated list that explains what guitar amp simulators (VST plugins) are compatible with the current version of Reaper version: 5.980/x64

Also, of all available choices, which company is the go-to for quality support, most realistic sounding products and longevity in terms staying power?

Reaper is compatible with just about all of them.

In fact, Reaper is now the only daw that gives me a stable instance of my old Simulanalog x86 plugins...

Out of the choices you've given, I think Amplitube is the clear winner.

I've stopped looking at other amp sims after I got Axiom. For what I do - it's perfect.




Great customer service - found an issue in an early release and the developer fixed within a day.
Also, there's no "in app" adds to buy a bunch of "gear pak" crap. It's all there.
Authorization is custom SN like REAPER vs dongle or challenge response garbage.
It doesn't have photo rendered images of a vintage pedal or anything, but I love the interface - its more like Helix or Fractle AX ish.
The "late replies" delay part is awesome, as is the "destructor" part. Have not messed with the "re guitar" (virtual pickups) much but looks interesting.
It can go from super simple to VERY deep in the capability.

+1 on Ignite Amps. Started using that a few months ago, very happy with it.

Voxengo BoogEx, I think that's what it's called, worked pretty well also.

I mostly use Amplitube 4 but it has some cons, not sure if these are REAPER only related so FWIW,..

No Undo support for params. As an alternative I use SWS snapshots as an undo to save/restore Amplitube4 parm settings while fine tweaking.

REAPER shows Amplitube4 is set to "Hard Reset" but unless you manually toggle this option (at least once) and restart REAPER (starting with v5.975) its not actually using this option, and I heard noise in some instances, see https://forum.cockos.com/showpost.ph...7&postcount=16.

All the others I've demoed or use occasionally, they all have pros and cons, best to try them and decide for yourself.

Make sure you grab Tonelib GFX as well. SUPER low CPU and they got a lot of features right that some of the others messed up on (quality of life stuff mostly)

Scuffham S-Gear, Amplitube 4 (Fender Collections), Kuassa Caliburn, and Plugin Alliance's Engl E765 RT are the ones i tend to reach for the most. The Bias stuff can sound pretty good but is a huge workflow killer. Opening the plugin is like opening an active webpage in your DAW. Ugh.

From what I have seen over the years, you can get amazing results from all of them. Some take longer to tweak and need more practice, and others sound impressive out of the gate.

But they all work.

You can get fantastic results from a surprising amount of free amp vsts too. Emissary, for example (of course!).

I liked pretty much all of them. I am really happy other companies like Neural DSP are trying to shake up the status quo, push the boundaries and give us more choice.

I had problems with Bias when it was freshly released. But that was years ago. I have never had any problem with Reaper and guitar amp sims since.

As others have stated, Reaper is by far the best choice for running 32-bit plugins in a stable manner.

Slate Digital has recently introduced a virtual amp collection that works great with Reaper (and sounds good too!)
