Regions do not snap to item beginnings and ends
Regions do not snap to item beginnings and ends. Markers as well.

personally, I don't mind this behavior. An Option would be nice though.
You can always click an item Edge to move the edit cursor there and snap the region to the edit cursor.

But I wanted to set regions that are exactly as long as the items. I'm afraid that's not possible. Strangely enough they even snap to the edit cursor and time selection.
It would also be useful if the edit cursor and time selection would also snap to the start and end of items.
Of course everything would be adjustable in the Snap Settings.

It works already. At least it does for markers.
Look at the changlog for REAPER v6.10 - May 9, 2020
Snap: snap project markers and regions following settings for snapping cursor
Snap: improve unsnapped movement of ruler markers/region edges
Snap: snap media items to take markers respecting preference to snap to other media items within X tracks
Snap: snap cursor/time selection/markers/regions to take markers only if preference is enabled to snap to media items

If you like the cursor, time selection, and now markers and regions to snap to media item edges all the time, I just check mark these in the snap settings, and save as project default settings.
Hope this helps.

Wyatt

Just a quick message to say thank you for the tip, WyattRice! I hadn't been able to find the right parameter for months!

Thanks for this. And mawi, I agree the naming is confusing. Been using Reaper for a decade and would not have guessed this. Glad the forum exists.

Careful with that "10 tracks away" setting. This often leads to off-grid selections without being obvious and through duplication you could end up with a mess. I'd keep it at one or two to be safe.
@OP Idk how you are making your regions, but a shift+double click on an item makes a time selection item-length and you can just make your region from that with an action. Nothing to do with snapping.
