Default Reaper 3 Beta MAC Bugs only

Greetings to all.

I thought it would be handy to collect current Mac Beta bugs in one spot.
Some of these will no doubt exist on the pc side, but please only post those that are confirmed (or reproducible) on a mac build. Note this is not the place to complain about missing features. It is the place to report implemented features that are broken.

Also please include the following for kicks and giggles:

OSX version
Mac Hardware (macbook, imac, mac pro, Hackintosh)
Ram
steps to reproduce the errant behaviour (if applicable)
Screenshots and video (if you care to)
and workaround to bide the time, you have have found any.

Reproduce:
cmd+Z after you apply quantization
won't undo quantize while quantize window is open, but will undo other things. Things like the midi track recording I just did 15 takes on. also, "can't redo" a midi take that has been "undo-ed." FML.

Same Hack system as above.



Note the Options-->Record Mode: Normal

If Record Mode = Autopunch Time Selection, then the loop end point is correct.
If Record Mode = Autopunch Selected Item (and no Item is selected) then the loop point is placed incorrectly.

Reproduce:

1. creat 3 midi tracks
2. make a loop selection and enable cycle/repeat on the transport
3. Set Options Record mode to normal or auto-punch Selected items
4. begin recording
5. stop recording and notice where the loop end point is.

tools tips that should display at the bottom of the screen...
don't they are off screen.

reproduce by:

1. make sure you are running with Reaper large or maximized, dock hidden.
2. make a time selection
3. hover over the last of the selection text-boxes...

the tooltip will pop-up, but off screen

iMac 24" 3.06GHz Late 2008

Leopard 10.5.6

1) POD Farm 1.03 AU shows blank white plugin area when starting up. You have to toggle the UI to get it to show.

2) POD Farm 1.03 AU corrupts the screen display outside of Reaper's client area, looks like from screen offset 0,0 to (PF.width,PF,height). Blank white again.

3) POD Farm 1.03 VST shows blank white plugin area when starting, eventually repaints when events trigger it (mouse move, etc).

4) POD Farm 1.03 VST buttons and menus do not function. Switching to presets, selecting an effect from dropdown, enabling dual FX chains are all impossible. Knobs work, dragging amps and effects also work.

POD Farm works as intended in Live and GarageBand. Even Audacity.

This bug:
In OSX version, when windows with controls are docked (eg FX browser), and the docker is resized, the window is not redrawn and visual trails of all of the controls are visible. Works fine in 2.58.

various issues with odd plugin behavior on render. unloaded samples from machfive, and somehow made vibeEQ mute any track it was applied to when I attempted to render. deleting vibeEQ and undoing the delete fixed it, but it's still impossible to render because it happens on render.

Mac OSX Leopard 10.5.2
Hackintosh q6600 Vanilla Kernel 9.2.2
Confirmed on a Genuine iMac 10.5.6
Reaper 3.beta.2

It is impossible to Customize the Main Tool bar and map a custom icon to an action from the Action List.



No matter how you try to select one of the unmapped entries labelled hide, the editor jumps back to the first entry (which defaults to File Open).

easily reproduced:
1. right-click or control click in the space next to the the toolbar icons
2. scroll down and select a blank entry labelled hide.
3. from the drop-down menu select customize.
- 3a. note that the action window open, and the filter works, but you are not able to select any action from the list.

How I have worked around this:
I opened my pc Reaper.ini, selected and copied all of the toolbar entries, and pasted them into the the mac Reaper.ini. Upon reopening Reaper, all my custom toolbar Icons and action were available and working as expected.

Default AU Settings

Reaper does not save AU settings.

I tested with Linuxsampler AU Plugin.

After reloading a project the plugin is still insered but no samples are loaded. Midi settings are also gone. Since Linuxsamper settings are saved within Logic and Ableton Live this seems to be a Reaper problem.


It seems that AU in general does not work as well as VST does.

Default Window size

Some windows are cut off e.g. the midi filter window/dialog. Or in other words the displayed window is somtimes to small for the displayed elements and cuts them off.

Same general consideration here.
Got grafx displaying problems as well (especially with iZotope Ozone).
Workaround : click here and there on the plug-in window and it usually forces it to display pretty much correctly.

Since 307pre... Explode multichannel (MIDI) does not work. it hangs. Back to 3.06 it works.

Fixed now in pre3 thanks Schwa. Data entry windows not closing with hitting enter twice bug is still happening here though. Are you sure it's working at your end?

I wrote a few weeks ago concerning a problem with some Audio Units that have Cocoa Gui.(sorry for the delay in response)
The automations are recorded and you can hear them playing back but the GUI doesn't refresh so you won't see your parameters moving.

Seems like some code is missing. Here's what my programmer sent me:

AudioUnitEvent myEvent;
myEvent.mArgument.mParameter.mAudioUnit = mAU;
myEvent.mArgument.mParameter.mParameterID = parameterID;
myEvent.mArgument.mParameter.mScope = kAudioUnitScope_Global;
myEvent.mArgument.mParameter.mElement = 0;
myEvent.mEventType = kAudioUnitEvent_ParameterValueChange;
AUEventListenerNotify(NULL, NULL, &myEvent);

According to him, this should be had each time a parameter is modified.

Hope this will help. Could you had this to next release?

Default OSX : meters out of sync when using ReaInsert

This one really bugs me when using ReaInserts :
all the meters are out of sync because of the delay compensation.

Would it be possible to compensate Reaper's visuals as well as the audio ?

Default Reaper crashes on MacBookPro when using POD Farm

I have two MacBooks, a 1 1/2 year old MacBook and a very new MacBook Pro. Both are running OS X 10.6.1 I'm using Reaper 3.11 with POD Farm 1.11, using version 4.2.4 of the audio/midi driver. As far as I can see, both machines are configured the same way. I have better buggy process selected.

Reaper and POD Farm work fine on the older MacBook. But on the newer MacBook Pro, Reaper crashes when I add the POD Farm FX to a track and then close the FX window. This happened every time with the AU effect, but not with the VST. The VST UI would not paint properly and didn't respond to menu selections. But the plugin seemed to work.

I tried again with Reaper 3.12rc and now both the AU and VST plugins cause Reaper to crash when the FX window is closed.

Some additional information: POD Farm works fine on the MacBook Pro in Garage Band. Reaper 3.12 released today still has the problem.

There was a difference between the MacBook and MacBook Pro configurations I didn't consider - I had a second monitor connected to the MacBook Pro. When I disconnected the second monitor, Reaper 3.12 no longer crashes with POD Farm. So there is something about the display handling of the FX window where closing that window with a second monitor attached, even when the windows are not displayed on that monitor, that causes Reaper to crash. Again, this doesn't happen with Garage Band which is displaying the same FX window for POD Farm.

OH MY GOODNESS, you found the key!! That's it! When I disconnect the second monitor (I have to go into displays and get it to "detect displays" again - that's very Windows-y) Reaper+POD Farm ACTUALLY WORKS!!! As soon as I hook up the second display, poof.

Default rendering does not work and kicks out vsti

I tried rendering of a midi track with Linuxsampler and with G-Player.

I got an empty wav-file and the plugin was kicked out.

Both VSTis stream. Maybe that is the cause of this behavior.

Default Strange RAM behavior in info window

Strange RAM behavior in 3.13 pre3 (perhaps other releases too?)

Situation: Mac. OSX Tiger PPC 2GB.

Open new project. Remains unsaved. A single audio track is added - a one bar drum loop in AIFF format. The selection is looped and no FX are being used.

Symptom:
The RAM reading on the "information display" (mini window above transport) shows the project jumping from 33MB to 50MB to 1098MB then to 609MB RAM used and then back down to 50MB again.

Wildcard:
When opening the performance window, this behavior stops and RAM stays settled at 33MB in both Performance and Information Display indicators.

Just a curious RAM reading behavior. Does it affect performance, is it insignificant? Inquiring minds want to know...

Default OSX Intel 3.13pre5 Wave-display media browser

Samples in Media-Browser wave display are flickering. Start on bar is selected and Autoplay.

Reaper is playing a track with orchestersound and percussions in the meanwhile. The display obviously correlating with that played sound. If I stop playing, the wave-display is alright.

Confirmed - also the Media-Browser audio playback has glitches in it. (Playback is fine within the Reaper project track.)
Original audio was recorded as stereo wav files on an M-Audio Microtrack.
Project and original audio both at 44.1KHz 24 bit.

OSX v10.5.8 2.6GHz Intel Core 2 Duo - 4 GB ram - 3.13pre5

Default Double-Clicking on Audio File in Media Brower

Double-clicking on a stereo file in the Media-Browser inserts that stereo track on the right channel only of the current item position (much like a lane) in a project. This audibly replaces the original item in the track. But not the visual display of the previous item on the left channel.
This appears to be unintended behaviour. Perhaps this is only a display problem in the track where the insertion takes place?

On OSX - opening SWS Markerlist crashes Reaper.

If the Markerlist is empty - no crash.
