Default SWS colors on the Mac????

forgive me but I'm a bit dense when it comes to working out actions on the Mac... I'm fine on the PC...

I have given a theme of mine to a buddy ... I'm on PC, he is on Mac

the theme includes the SWS Custom colors for both tracks and items and has them on a toolbar.

Now on the pc, I just select a track or item and clk my custom color icon on the toolbar, each of which is one of the 16 colors I've defined and saved in the SWS Custom color thing. The track or item then gets that color.

But on this mac, even if I save a new set of SWS colors, it don't work...
I clk say a redish color and the track goes to gray...

I can color the tracks IF I use the color wheel but that is tedious.

Mac must be using colors differently than PC??????

Please enlighten me if you can... thanks much

no idea, I use the built-in custom colors and saved some swatches. That selection seems to be a system preference rather than one in REAPER because I'm on a new hard drive with same reaper config and it was cleared.

In my toolbar I have 3 buttons, track color, item color, and take color (waveforms).

Maybe crayon box view is better than the wheel?

thanks for that reply... I'm ok with all that and understand those parts...

the part I'm not sure about [and can't test at home cuz no mac here] is in the SWS color stuff... where you can create and save your own set of 16 colors and then quickly pick them from a rt clk on the menu for color [track or item].... This works nicely on the pc but seems to either not work or at the least work differently on a mac.

I only get to spend time with it briefly on a mac at another's place... and since time is precious there, I have not been able to try and delve deeper into what is going on....

That is why I'm asking for the help and advice of others.

Hopi we might(!) be facing some kind of change or bug in the API.

The colour swatch window (Reaper5 only, because it's in LUA) may have that problem too. I was told colour was passed to the Reaper API in a specific way, but at least one OSX user has reported the colours being incorrect.

If you're using a Reaper 5 pre-release version perhaps you could compare how the SWS colours end up on your tracks, and how a similar colour on the colour swatch tool ends up on a track.

If they match then we have a basis for comparing how SWS and my Lua script sends Reaper the colour via the API command, and Cockos can fix it if necessary.

Thinking about this some more I was using EvilDragon's color toolbar a few years ago but it stopped working one day. Could be when I switched to mac... can't find my post on it.

This might help

oh good... or rather oh bad... thanks guys, at least that is confirming a bit of what I was seeing...

airon... I can't go test since the Mac is at friends about 2 hours away but we can begin to search out the problem...

I am using a ver.5 pre in this instance on that particular Mac...

However I have seen this before... or something like it on a diff Mac that used ver. 4.75-78.

On that one I set up the SWS colors that I use on my pc with my own saved SWS Pastel colors. And set up my own color swatch toolbar for tracks and items [which is similar to ED coloring TB]

What I would see happen there is the color on a track would change but it would not change to the correct color... The color it would change to would be almost the opposite of what it should have been. For instance, I'd clk the toolbar button to set a track to a pastel light red and the track would become a blueish green.

Unfortunately I can't just go to either of these Macs and test further.

Seems that on PC you get RGB colors, but on Mac it's BGR, so you need to tweak the .SWSColor file by swapping pairs of hex values so they translate properly.

Realistically this should have been fixed in SWS, though.

Am experiencing this issue on my Mac machine two (seven years after the last post!). Is there any news of a fix? Would be great to use a colour toolbar on my mac as it works so well on my windows machine.

What's the issue exactly?
Exchanging SWS custom colors between Mac and PC or they're not working generally on Mac for you?

Sorry, should have clarified. The colours load fine in each session but are not retained when restarting Reaper.

Not (or rather rarely) a Mac user myself but to clarify, you've set the custom colors as shown in that gif but they do not persist across sessions?

Which version of SWS are you using? There was a fix for saving colors on macOS 10.14 and newer in v2.13.
