Yep.

I'm going to leave it to someone else to explain exactly how - it depends on whether by "moves" you mean A. you're willing to draw envelopes/graphs to automate things, B. you want to record the on-screen sliders in real-time, or C. you have a MIDI control surface you want to mix with.

The "TCP" (track controls, to the left of the actual tracks) and the mixer (might be on the bottom, floating, or hidden) have a "envelope" button that will show various envelopes for the track. If you've inserted effects in a track, their parameters show up here too. This is where they are armed for recording.

You can edit these with mouse, etc. or record onscreen slider/button moves into them. On the transport bar is an "automation" button that controls recording/playback of automation. Just like audio or MIDI, you have to arm at the track level and initiate recording at the transport level.

Using an external control surface is a whole 'nother discussion.

tHANKS FOR THE REPLY(KINDA NEW AT the digital world)
"B. you want to record the on-screen sliders in real-time,"
That is what I wish to do,
So,I engage the envelope button and arm the tracks I want to record movements?
I saw to the right of the "loop" button the Auto button with mulitiple options.
Which do I choose?
I have so many questions but like to explore to figuire out on my own but this one confused me.
Thanks again for the help!

There are three volume controls per track - a fixed trim, pre-FX volume, and post-FX volume. The armed one gets recorded. Arm two at once - dunno what happens.

There are three record options, touch, latch, and write.

Write makes a snapshot of where the fader is right now.

Touch writes all fader moves to automation, like live performance.

Latch doesn't start writing until you first move the fader, sort of like punching in.

VST and DX automation records the same, I believe.

No, Reaper doesn't record movements in the UI of the plugin (unfortunately)

Bummer.

Is this on the FR list? Is there some reason it wouldn't be (besides the annoyance of supporting buggy VST plugins)?

Yes, it's on the FR list. Along with MIDI Learn.
