Default Vocals

Hi all.
Im back again. I need help again :-(
This time though im just looking for advise re: vocal.
About layer techniques, revered ( & reverse reverb )
And compression.
I want to make my vocals sound cool. So. Any tips would be great.
The actually singing part is done. Its now the fx side im intersted in. I dont want to over do it. But i do want to give them some depth. And a certain something.

One of the most interesting and useful things I've read on here lately is the info on the 2k in audio. Since I have begun slicing it out of vocals it really makes a huge difference. That might be one thing you could experiment with.

The thing is, that certain Something usually comes from how you actually sang, not from FX. I'd advise you to read carefully these two posts:

http://forum.cockos.com/showpost.php...&postcount=364

http://forum.cockos.com/showpost.php...&postcount=365

I'd only add I recently discovered ReaComp for vocals, usually setting it to 'Modern' (can't remember exact preset name now), aim it around 6 dB comp. and 64x oversampling.

Being you I'd think and decide whether I want 'straight' singing which relies on just delivering the message and then it should sound already cool without any FX, or I want to catch the listener with some special effect. Then I'd experiment a lot with various FX, beyond any existing tutorial.

Indeed. Your primary FX-chain should look like this:
Good voice -> good microphone -> good mike preamp -> good AD-converter. Anything missing in this chain is pretty hard to 'repair' with ITB FX

Mind you, I didn't say 'great' or 'super'... just 'good' as in 'good enough'

Any examples... because from my perspective that's pretty much a myth

Gary Numan's signature sound is mainly based on heavy use of ADT.

This is what I was going to say. Try the vaccuum sound plugin ADT, it's free and simple.
