Default How disable seeking when clicking in main?

Whenever I select an item in the main view, or click on empty background, or do some kind of operation at all in the main items area, Reaper's stationary cursor (don't know its name, it's the one with a downward pointing triangle on the top of it) relocates, to the location I clicked last.

This means I can't maintain the playback position after selecting items or adjusting anything in the main window. So I want to disable this behaviour. I want this cursor to relocate to a new location only when I click the ruler up on top; not when clicking the environment below.

In my Preferences > Audio > Seeking > Seek playback when clicked, the left option is selected, called "Top ruler". The other two - "Empty areas of tracks" and "Empty area below tracks" are not selected. This setting doesn't seem to prevent the main cursor from relocating when I click anywhere in main.

How can I disable relocation of this cursor when clicking in the main view?

thx
/C

That's not related to seeking. In Preferences->Editing Behavior->Mouse Modifiers you can change the default action for each click on various locations, e.g. change what REAPER should to when left-clicking on empty track area. By default that's set to "Deselect all items and move edit cursor", change that to "Deselect all items" and so on.

Thanks, Ollie. From what you wrote I understood what to do, and I got to learn what Mouse Modifiers was at the same time.

and yes, I understand the difference between that and "seeking" now. It's an easy confusion, but different technical things.

thx again

Sorry for Hi-jacking ,

I want the cusor to move only by clicking on the ruler .
Not by clicking on events & certainly not by clicking in arrange window .
Only the ruler .
Is that possible ?

In mouse-modifiers preferences / arrange view, it offers only
right drag , middle drag & middle click ...
So how do I de-select Left click moves edit cursor ?

Thanks for showing me light

The Mouse Modifiers (besides "Ruler - left click") which move the cursor by default are:
  • Media item - left click
  • Media item bottom half - left click
  • Track - left click
As Ollie mentioned in the example for "Track - left click" in post #2: change them to a different Behavior which doesn't move the edit cursor.

Ahhh - Track Left Click was set to "Deselelect all items and MOVE EDIT CURSOR." That worked. Thank you @solger.
