Default New Subforum "Live / Embedded Use"

Now, as reaper is increasingly publicly acknowledged as a major tool for a wide range of audio work, in several subforums we saw threads on using Reaper as a tool for live usage. You can also see this as an "embedded" application, as for live usage, mostly the standard Reaper GUI is not important, while the "gig" is going on (but only when configuring the project).

In more detail, "Live" or "Stage" usage has two aspects, that sometimes are required to be used in combination:

1) "Playing" Midi VST instruments by master keyboards or Midi Wind Controllers, or passing audio e.g. from a Guitar through effect VSTs. This is a scope of application that often is done by dedicated software such as "Forte", "Cantabile" or "Main Stage".

2) "Firing" Audio snippets such as "Background Tracks", Patterns or "Loops". This is a scope of application that often is done by dedicated software such as "Ableton Live".

3) Also using Reaper as a live mixer has been demonstrated and discussed several times.

4) Moreover Reaper can be used in "deeply embedded" applications as an invisible functionality behind a 3rd party software system.

In fact, my first motivation to use Reaper was live playing VST instruments.

Later, a friend of mine did several projects based on Reaper as a deeply embedded audio tool.

Reaper is perfectly suited for all this. But regarding any dedicated usage case, it's necessary to enhance the Reaper project by appropriate (free) plugins. Especially helpful are e.g.: (1: ) SWS "LiveConfigs", MidiToReaControlPath, several Midi JSFX plugins, (2: ) Playtime, and (4: ) "Beyond Reaper/Python".

Of course attaching appropriate hardware controllers to the Reaper project is a major issue in Live usage, as well.

That is why, IMHO, it would be very appropriate to have a dedicated subforum for Live and embedded use of Reaper.

The problem is that the atypical "Live" terminology nowadays would involve clip triggering or slick simple instrument/effect hosting.

Reaper does neither of these out the box (not something that has ever interested the developers at this point either), and all the other forums here cover every other aspect of its usage.

The nice thing about Reaper is that it (obviously due to the great interest of the developers to create something that can be used as a versatile "toolbox and not just as a predefined "one-purpose-thingy"). So non-Cockos developers can use Reaper to craft software that is useful for purposes like those mentioned above.

Such a forum would allow for better communication between these developers and their "clients" (and the Cockos devs).

No it wouldn't ?
Playtime has it's own sticky in the general forum, and i have seen no simple slick instrument/effect hosting add ons unless you count LBX, and that is in the scripters forum.
Seriously what is next, a forum for Mouses that people use with Reaper, or a forum for what angle your monitor should be when working with Reaper.

t some point you just have to stop watering down forums and post in the right places, scripts go in scripting, personally i think that should be renamed to native add ons, and it could have a sticky for playtime in there.

But i am as per the other thread asking for a linux forum to be added, going to step away from this and leave it to the forum owners to not add these new forums haha
