Default midi step recording always advances quarter note

When I enter notes from my external synth for midi step recording, the cursor always advances 1 quarter note. Even when Grid is set to 1/16 and Notes is set to 1/16. How do I get the cursor to advance 1/16 note when entering 1/16 notes? This seems odd. Thanks in advance for help.

It pretty much makes the step sequencer useless... after every note entered I have to hit the left arrow key on my computer 3 times to move back to where the next sixteenth note should be.

try using actions...

if you are doing single notes... you can create a MIDI Ed. toolbar to insert every kind of note and also to move the cursor and the pitch...

let us know how that goes for you

there are actions to move cursor left and right by grid... give them your choice of hot keys

you have to set the grid as desired of course but there are actions for that also

Thanks for the reply. I'll look into Actions. It seems the most intuitive thing... you enter a sixteenth note, you would want the cursor to automatically move to the next sixteenth note to be entered. I'm a bit flummoxed by the simplest of functionality completely unacknowledged by designers.
