Default *WALTER* Which setting(s) would I need to edit?

Hello all,

The experienced themers/tweakers among you may be able to assist here. In the below screengrab I've got two different layouts next to each other.

My question is, which setting(s) in the rtconfig.txt file would I need to edit to align the tops of the meter/fader area as marked?

Second coordinate of
  • volume
  • volume.label and
  • volume.meter
And then the same for buttons M, S, env etc to align them with previous elements.

And after that you will ask for how to make balance knob bigger to match size other one

Thank you for this.

I believe I've found the correct lines within the layout I'm trying to edit. They look like so:

Code:
set mcp.volume.label l_sec{h}<hide_volume_label{x} [0 l_sec 42 2 0 0 0 0] [0 l_sec 42 17 0 0 0 0]
set mcp.volume + [0 mcp.volume.label{h}] +:-1:1 [0 0 0 mcp.volume.label{h}] [21 l_sec 17 l_sec 0 0 0 0]
set mcp.meter + [0 mcp.volume.label{h} 0 l_sec] +:-1:1 [0 0 0 mcp.volume.label{h}] [2 l_sec 17 -2 0 0 0 0]
Can I assume it is the last set of [] that I need to look at in each line?

What does l_sec stand for after the first coordinate?

I'll worry about the graphic when I get to that

Hello, I wrote that walter, and let me start by saying this : editing the Default5 theme is just about the worst introduction to walter that I could imagine. You're going to have a horrible, horrible time.

Still here?

Okay, this is still a terrible idea, but of all the things you might try to do with the Def5 theme, this is would be on the 'not the most terrible' end, because the things you want to mess with are defined as their own section. Your steps would broadly be as follows:
  1. Repeat to yourself 10 times that this is not a good idea.
  2. Back up the theme
  3. ...take a deep breath...
  4. the pan/width and record input section are defined by an invisible section I invented called '1_sec', so you could try copying that bit from the small layout walter into the main layout walter.
  5. also copy the individual walter for each element, that sets how they position themselves inside 1_sec, line by line from the small layout walter into the main layout walter.
  6. copy the related graphics from the small layout folder into the main layout folder.

There is a not-quite-zero chance that all might just work, but there will probably need to be some debugging. I'm afraid I don't have time to do this for you, but there are about a gazillion mods of this theme out there, perhaps you could interest one of those fine people in doing it?

Hello White Tie, and thank you for stopping by.

From this I gleaned the following important piece of information: "Unless you know what you're doing, don't bother". Nothing like a bit of encouragement!

Like many things with Reaper, there appears to be a huge leap between "Here's the simple stuff, jump right in" and the "I wouldn't if I were you" deep end, with little to no middle ground or documentation for this kind of thing.

I'd quite like to learn how this is all done, but the documentation provided is a little... dense.

I very much encourage you/anyone to get into theming ...and part of that is to steer you away from things which others have, in the past, found extremely discouraging. Start small, you'll soon get the hang of it.

Ok... after a few false starts, I think I have step one mastered

I have still got the "logic" of that there are some themes that have very simple and un-messy code that I feel helpful and maby as a cheat, but Tie knows his stuff, I will try this 10 times also, def not on Default though.
