Default All black capture on Mac OS on secondary monitor

I'm currently running Mac OS Catalina but this has plagued me since Mojave, I've just been too lazy to sign up for the forums.

If I try to capture a window on a secondary monitor, the only thing LiceCap captures is full black. I know it used to work 3-5 years ago because that's when I first started using LiceCap.

Capturing on my MacBook's display works fine. But if I plug in another monitor, I only get a solid black gif.

Hey Slypenslyde,

I'm not sure if it helps your case, but the following helped me.
Please try opening the System Preferences->Displays and try moving the 'menu bar' off the main monitor and restart LICEcap. More details can be found here:

It appears that in order to tackle the black screen issue on the external display, you have to change a ‘Privacy’ setting.

1. Click on  > System Preferences
2. Click on Security & Privacy
3. Choose Screen Recording on the left panel of the screen
Enable the Display Driver here in these privacy settings
This should take care of the black screen issue on the external display.

If that didn’t help, try resetting your Mac’s cache by starting up in Safe mode
