Error connecting: Can't connect to host
Hi.
I'd like to contribute to the Ninjam community by setting up a few rooms.
I just can't manage to get an outside client to connect to my server. No matter what I do with my router and config file, I get this message from the client : Error connecting: Can't connect to host!
What I did :
- I DO have a fixed IP address
- I forwarded port 2049 to the server on my router
- I have checked the firewall and verified the port with online tools
I've tried on both Windows and MacOS.
I can connect locally thru 192.168.0.xxx:2049, no problem there.
But if I use my public IP xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx, I always get the error.
What am I doing wrong?
Thanks for your help!

Internally, your router won't know what to do if you try to use your external IP address - it's like you're trying to connect to the router. (Some routers do actually get this right, but it's rare.)

Thanks PLJONES!
I simply asked a friend to connect to my server and it worked!
I knew it was a simple detail... I couldn't imagine it was something that basic...

[QUOTE=jnastic;2268136]Hi.

I have exact same issue with the only exception that my network is on the 10.1.x group if IP addresses.
I can successfully connect to the server from another local machine, but connecting from outside simply fails with the message you provided.
Did you ever figure this out? I have not seen any responses here, so curious...
Thanks for any help!

As the above thread says, if you try to use your EXTERNAL address internally, you're doing it wrong, so it doesn't work. So don't do that. It's that simple.
If you're asking a different question, like "How do people from outside my network connect?", then that's covered on other threads.
