Knob is only usable if it works like this ...
Code:
set tcp.volume.style 0 ; Fader
set tcp.volume.style 1 ; Knob goes to 11
other than that +1

you can create separate shares (kind of like folders) and we could all just use the same login. just a thought, I don't really care what we use in the end as long as it's easy.

If the colors and graphics just match the mock up as best as possible using 3.x features, I think this will be my new default theme.
Any WALTER stuff is just icing on the cake.
I can't wait to see where this ends up.

There are loads of amazingly talented guys & girls here and we appreciate you very much! Having said that, Aldi will never be forgotten (if he's no longer around) for some amazing "out of the box" themes.

My teeny, tiny contribution to the cause: vectorized OCTAVE logo that Brice made (see first post), in Xara format. I tried to be as truthful to the original as possible.

week-end at last
I should hopefully have some free time and get something done.
IMO we should do mock-ups of the general layouts
which anyone can do with the software they are accustomed to
(be it inkscape, gimp, xara ... or photoshop)
and we can worry about the look & feel later.
as I've said earlier let's start with the MCP
- Where should the buttons be?
- fixed height faders/meters?
- which buttons should show up on specific track layouts?
- how many different track layouts?
PerunZG :
I can't open xar files but I hope it wasn't too much trouble, I could have uploaded a svg file or something if you wanted.

Were we not going to try to implement the legendary "Brice" GUI? Or did you want to just throw out all preconceptions and go with something totally new?

My old mock-up could be the starting point in terms of look, but who knows where this could lead.
WALTER does open up a ton of new possibilities in terms of layout.

ie. the toolbar just became dockable (alpha 10?) over the main toolbar. Is that new? I think it is.

i'm probably off-topic here, but this mention of ideal knobs reminds me of something i would loooooooooooooove to see implemented in the reaper interface...
there was some program i used several years ago (forgot the name, probably on the mac) that would let you modify >>>EACH DIGIT<<< in a number by dragging up (to increment) or down (to decrement).
need to slam the knob by hundreds? click-drag the digit in the hundreds' place. need the slightest adjustment? click-drag the digit in the tenths or hundredths' place. that was the most usable number-slider element i've seen.
could WALTER implement something like this?
example:

Yeah! This would be fabulous!!
But I suspect this is more a programming issue than a WALTER thing.

I don't think that's in WALTERS powers. But yeah, Logic did that ever since and it's undoubtedly my favorite way of editing numbers. It doesn't even need those pluses and minuses and no rectangles around digits. As soon as one does it once it becomes second nature. I've been asking for it several times here.

yeah, whatever it was i used didn't have the +/-, that was more of a nod to evildragon's preference. seems like it had shaded rectangles though - of course that's optional too...

I don't believe I opened an official tracker ticket for it. Just mentioned it during discussions but as far as I remember didn't gain much support. There has been a time when mouse editing was a four letter word in these forums .

Very Smal TCP
Just spent about 16 hours pushing pixels around with walter .
This is ware I got, it demonstrates how ridiculously small the tcp can become and how you can use very small faders with ctrl click and right click.
Don't be alarmed by the graphics as I'm sure many of you will hate it and I can hardly draw.
I would defiantly support the use of knobs
http://www.screencast.com/users/Jeds...9-f70162058070
I will post it up but its W.I.P and has got some nasty overlay hacks that I'm not proud of.
Hope this helps in some way Jed

obviously quite a few problem in the layout.
Let's get the comments rolling, new/better ideas...

Were any of those views rendered by Reaper ?
I ask because Reaper will not colour only the track-number background, but only either the background of the track name, or the entire MCP/TCP. So in any mockups you can only colour the background of the track name if you don't want to tint the entire panel. I'd love to be proven wrong though.
Nice colour choices on the sends, parameter knobs and inserts. Mmh. We do have knobs, but it seems we cannot(yet?) use them for the pans, but the tiny sliders in the "normal +width" look great and seem easy to spot. Nice choice of metering colours too.
Don't forget we can have wider MCPs, and we may be able to improve the design with a little more space to do it.

not rendered with reaper,
thought we could color what we wanted now, will have to change that.
otherwise we'll have to use some hacks

You can use layouts for different colors..
This could be particularly useful for setting Track types.
p.s. loving the mockup

Damn it, if I knew you had it in vector format already, I wouldn't have bothered. But it was fun and it was done in almost no time.

I've never done meters before. What are the file names? I looked in prefs/themes...etc. but had no luck isolating those babies.
